2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

Not a hope he will go out on loan.

He is already much too good to lose from the squad.

I would be more worried about him being overused this season.

He is going to be a really top player.
Thought he was okay yesterday, but nothing special. Gave a free kick away in a very dangerous position that could easily have led to their second.

According to some Derby fans I’ve seen on social media, it was Harrison that was taking responsibility and running their midfield! For a 17/18 year with so little first team experience, that tells you a lot about the boy.

He was their deep lying playmaker.

Looked very good.

…looks classy, good passing range, good size (scored headers at Youth level), character and application about him. I often like to compare younger players with more established footballers just to determine what ‘type’ they are but I find it difficult with Armstrong.

Not totally but reminds me a bit of a young Scott Parker or even Declan Rice. Not unlike Young Wharton either.

Always looking for that through ball .....

I think he’s showing enough to suggest he’s ready to step up. Given the right minutes to bed in and develop he has the potential to become a starter for us during the season

I think we’ve got a star in the making with him. Another loan spell isn’t what he needs. He needs to see the pitch in the PL. Maybe become a 60’ sub for a while and see where that gets us. Maybe we’ll find that’s the right slot for the time being or he’s ready to start.

I think a full season in the Championship would do him wonders but we haven’t got the squad to let him do that yet.

It’s always a fine line with young players like him. Play him too soon and he gets injured or you find he needs more loan time and he could get discouraged or regress. Or be too cautious and tie him up on loan too long.

The older I get, the more I lean towards just going for it. Careers in the PL and particularly your team can be short. They get injured, don’t pan out, get traded. If we think we’ve got a star, play him like it and set up the formations for success.

I’d say if you believe he is what we think, then demonstrate it with action. Don’t play him sporadically, or hurt your club by not using him, and essentially breeding all the discontent in him for wanting to leave and off he goes and there we stay. Don’t create a highlight reel for another club to buy him.
