Honestly, people way overthink pre season.

One of the money teams that’s expected to be in champions league and up at the top of the table just got rolled 4 nil by Celtic.

Villa just lost their second pre season game on the bounce.

It means absolutely nothing.

If you are peaking in pre season mate, you’re in trouble rom a S/C point of view. You should be a mile of it.

This was our last season where we finished in an actual half decent position (marco silva finishing 8th).

Didn’t lose in the first 4 that season. We will have had better pre seasons than that and finished lower down.

I couldn’t care less about preseason games. They are about finding out what you can or can’t do. So far we have found out that there is a lot we can’t do. Experiment, try things out and if they don’t work then try something different. Anyone with an ounce of understanding will know that the only thing that matters at this point is getting a first team squad ready for the league starting. Friendly results don’t worry me but not getting better quality players in early doors does.

If I recall correctly, losing our first few matches of the season is only a recent trend which began in the short-lived Lampard era when we lost to Chelsea. Before that, I think we had a decent record in the first two fixtures of each season, stretching back around 20-odd years.
