Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I’m just asking the question…why are we so excited about Kubo? He doesn’t exactly set la liga alight with goals and assists? Asking as someone who’d never heard of him before he was linked to us.
I think specifically it's his profile as a player. Technical, fast and plays on the right. In theory Kubo goes straight into the team and immediately improves it.

If he was setting La Liga alight with goals and assists he wouldn't join Everton this window. Buying Kubo from La Liga probably represents less of a risk than buying someone with better numbers in the Swiss league for instance.

Having seen the report from The Independent about our targets including a number six and a number eight, I am thinking about the prospect of re-signing Orel Mangala. Now, I know that is not an ambitious signing, but he is somebody who has been here before and has demonstrated that he can perform in the Premier League.

Although there have been no concrete links with Mangala, I would welcome his return to cover the number eight role in the midfield. Any deal for Mangala would not be without its risks of course, so I would consider another loan for him to see how he has recovered from his injury. If Lyon had been relegated, I would have looked at a cut-price deal for him, but Lyon were saved by their appeal so that option is now off the table.

We could probably do better, but I am not completely against re-signing Mangala.
Would one of those risks be the fact you're signing a player who won't even be able to train until about December.

TFG aren't idiots, they understand how much investment the squad would need and will have had people in place who told them this before they bought us.

That figure I think will turn out conservative by the end of the window.

Mcatee is a no brainer - he'd be the poster boy of a new Everton - fantastic player with great potential and an absolutely Moyes type player in terms of character. Type of player you can build a team around.
Follow in his Great Grandfather Alan Ball’s footsteps - I’ll let him wear white boots too

Maybe this is cope but I think we are pursuing very ambitious difficult deals that will genuinely significantly improve the team which is partly why we haven't made many signings yet.

If we had taken Forest's approach from a few years ago we could have probably signed 6 players by now but I would be far less confident those players would significantly improve our overall quality (and instead be comparable or worse to what we have).

Is it risky? Yes, going for players like Delap or McAtee who have other offers carries risk you'll miss out, but it's worth it when you secure a top player and significantly improve the team.
