Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I think we have to assume any rebuild will take place over a number of years.

We’ve managed to clear out a lot of players this summer but it will be impossible to fully replenish the squad immediately with the financial restrictions we face.

This coming season is all about avoiding relegation whilst we get used to the new stadium with a small squad.
Jesus - we may as well just give up completely if our season to season target is to avoid relegation. We have to have standards befitting of our history - we have gone through our disastrous period so now we must hold the decision makers at the club to account.

Brighton, Brentford, Fulham, Bournemouth did a lot of business in the year they came up.

It can work if you have a good scouting and recruitment set up.

Time will tell with Sunderland but they have a fighting chance.

If you come up you cant blow the boom.

The objective is two fold,

1. Give yourself a punchers chance of staying in the league.

2. Buy well enough to have more then a good chance of getting back up if you do get relegated or buy well enough to sell next summer to fund coming back up.

Players will go to Sunderland and Ipswich because the club will agree to things, we wouldnt. Delap for example - wed never buy him for 20 mill then agree a clause for 30 mill. I bet Diarra has the same type of deal at Sunderland. A year in the league, do well, be the main man in a bottom feeder club, get yourself a big move, get two signing on fees - Jobs a good one.

There is a race to the bottom market now.

No one gave them a hope against Sheff Utd in the playoffs ffs  Sheff Utd!

They aren't suddenly gonna turn into a Prem side over the summer mate and I happen to quite like Sunderland as a club..
You never know how these things will pan out but on the face of it Sunderland are doing some good business and have a nucleus of good young players who I can see improving. Teams do 'suddenly turn into a prem side' over the summer, quite literally.

For the purpose of debate...IF...IF the window slammed shut now where do we think this current squad would finish?
I think we'd be in a better position than last year I think 9th to 12th for following reasons:
  • teams around us are weaker after selling best players
  • We have competition for Beto,
  • McNeil is back from injury,
  • we dont have Jack Harrison
  • Jake O'Brien is getting games.
  • Alcaraz wasnt here 1st half of season either
  • Moyes is much better than Dyche
  • Armstrong is a baller 💪 (not calling him his other name...)
Big caveat is injuries and lack of depth, but a box on inhalers might do the trick 😜

Sunderland aren't staying up next season mate. Vault if you so wish!
