Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

If we sign those two old men from west ham we may as well raise the white flag. Coufal and soucek, meanwhile clubs below us buying kudos and Gibbs white.

He should not have said that really, only potentially setting himself up for ridicule

It’s about about building a competitive squad within the budget. Soucek is a proven Premier League player who will win you games - if the fee is right it’s clever business.

But is the “interest” even genuine?

But don’t underestimate assists and the general nuisance factor of another big weapon in the box. Imagine other teams groaning whenever we get a corner!

We’ll also be even more protected at set pieces defensively. He’s really a defensive midfielder at heart. Hes got good bravery as well - not afraid to stick his head where it hurts and play on after getting whacked.

He's a big upgrade on Doucoure, in my opinion.
I would just prefer we avoid spending money on 30+ year old players unless they are exceptional at what they do. Soucek is decent but not a game-changer for us. I'd rather use that 12m elsewhere i.e., a younger version of him or Doucoure.

If this is genuine, then a one-year deal (provided the £12m is correct and the wages are under £100k/week), with an obligation for a second if certain targets are achieved,

If Year two is triggered, then we sell him to Saudi for double what we paid for him.

If they want more, they can FO.

If he wants longer, he can FO.

If his agent wants more wages, then they can both FO.
He's got two years left on his WHam contract, he's not going to sign here for less money and a shorter contract length. Why on earth would he?

He’s only 30 lad.
Hardly Coleman/Young/Gueye territory.
Yeah, I get that, but he's going to want a 3 or 4 year deal. We've got enough players on the wrong side of 30 (although happily we've shifted some this summer).

Wouldn't be the end of the world like, but I'd still prefer to swerve given the choice.

It might be bait but he's not wrong. RB has been a long-standing issue for us and I can't fathom us not addressing it again. But, you know, Everton.

Ashley Young and Abdoulaye Doucoure are still without clubs. I can see them being the perfect foils to help Coufal and Soucek settle in
I'm not going to lie, this is a worry. I was certain that Doucs would have been snapped up by a Saudi club by now. The longer they are without clubs the more likely it is that they'll end up back here at the end of the window.

The offers Doucoure got were apparently very lucrative yet he still hasn’t signed one…

He brings goals and solidity and works like a Trojan. He is exceptional at what he does and would help us finish in a European place.

He’s a national captain. You would be adding leadership and be weakening a potential rival. There’s a lot about such a transfer to like.

Also, age isn’t really that big a concern. He has top tier stamina, does not rely on pace and is not injury prone. He’s a model pro.

If Soucek was exceptional at what he does then he wouldn't be leaving West Ham to sign for Everton for 12m.
