2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

He
What level of ability and involvement are we seeing and expect from him? Let’s hear comparisons and no fence sitting.

Does he have a future in the first team? Barkley level impact? Or just a Tom Davies? Or will be one of the countless academy graduates to ply their trade at lower levels, à la Kieran Dowell, John Lundstram, etc.

No fence sitting, please. Need material for the vaults.
He's no where near Barkley based on what I have seen so far. Barkley was generational. I'd tend towards the latter based on the evidence to date because that is always the most likely scenario based on the odds of making it as a premier league player.

Biggest compliment I can give is that he doesn’t look like a child playing against men like a lot of our youngsters tend to. The benefits of getting these players out on loan when they’re 17/18 rather than hoarding them until they’re 21 playing in the daft kids league.
Its tough ,though......he got a good loan at 17/18 because of his undoubted ability.

You send lads out on loan to clubs when they aren't ready and they can easily just get benched or not survive down there.

FWIW i think loans for our lads anywhere below top 8 in league 1 is pretty pointless anyway.
Harrison got Derby because he was good enough, the likes of Welch, Campbell, Metcalfe all wont make it at Everton and that was probably evident based on the original clubs they went on loan too

Rodwell for me, but hopefully not as Birkdale, he will become a first team regular.

The reason i wasn't bothered about us not getting Adam Wharton (he's just as good as him at 18 imo)

Lee Molyneux was the S&C coach that Gordon used a while back, so it’s a great sign of Armstrong’s attitude - for me Gordon had the best attitude, desire to improve of any of our youngsters in the past 10 years or so.

Having watched as many games as I could have when Harrison was playing for Derby , my focus was solely on him , I’m fully bought in to keeping him here , and developing him into a first team player. He’s got all the attributes to become a regular PL player for us, so it’s a question of more games in the Championship or progress with our coaches in the PL with fewer minutes. I’ll happily take the later , let’s demonstrate we can develop promising youngsters with a combination of loans / first team coaching.
I'd drift towards the same, if he's not getting minutes by the time the Afcon is up, send him on loan in January.

Europe would be ideal then the following season to give him more games (similar to how Rodwell, Anichebe, Vaughan, T.Davies & DCL got there game time in the past)

The thing about Rodwell was he was a very good athlete and was two footed. Harrison doesn't look like he an x factor to his game at the moment. I want to see him be braver in possession, ask for it under pressure and pass it forward more. We have enough crabs in midfield.

No we don’t. We actually don’t have enough midfielders who can keep possession which is why we can never control games of football.

Passing back to the centre backs and the keeper always results in us losing possession because we don't build from the back. Unless you are going to try to dominate possession like City then breaking the lines is key in football. We haven't had anyone who does that from the centre of midfield since Barkley left.

The question is would Moyes put him ahead of Garner?

As.things stand i think Moyes has it as

Gueye
Garner
Tim
Armstrong

100% we need another midfielder so that would put him further down the pecking order.

I'd have no qualms at all Armstrong taking Garners spot but I think Moyes likes him, he's forever praising him in the training vids for another 5yd square pass he's done.
If we don’t get another number 10 in before the season starts it wouldn’t surprise me if he plays there v Leeds

Derby fans would probably disagree with you that he can’t progress the ball up the pitch.

He's not doing that though is he? He did ok for Derby but looked a bit lost the one time I watched a full game and he looked ok v Accrington Stanley but nothing particularly special. He still obviously has time to develop but people are getting carried away.
Did ok at derby 😂😂😂😂😂 he joined a team as a 17yr old with them on the floor and then the mananger gets sacked. A new manager comes in and within 2/3 games he’s trusting him to sit in front of the back 4 for a team in a relegation fight against men in a very competitive league, probably more competitive than the Dutch league or Belgium leagues.

You’d would struggle to find many players on loan from the prem team, trusted in that situation

I’m not sure he would, according to the bobble alacraz will be a squad player next season, obviously pre season will determine a lot of what happens early this season

How on Earth would Bobble know what Moyes has planned for Alcaraz next season??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Jesus wept.
