Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I’d be quite happy with another McNeil-esque player for cover, honestly! I suppose it depends on what the plan is. If we’re gonna splurge on a wide forward then obvs swerve, but I’d like to think we’ll spend on a good CM and/or full-back, in which case a (relatively) cheap forward option would be good.

My personal hope is McNeill becomes an impact player mate, i though he was great when he came on last season as a sub, facing tired legs and caused real damage and influenced results.

I like McNeill - but if wee are to improve i think we need to build on top players like him, i want something a bit more dynamic like a Doak, Bakayoko type - while i haven't seen the Japanese lad - a lot seem to like his direct style.

There will be games for Dwight, were we will want to squeeze a flack or get crosses in or have someone to support a full back, even as a utility at 10 - that fine. I just want to have an option and build on that.

Stylistically i don't see Fellows as being hugely different or offering a different dimension to what Dwight does, thats not to say hes gash, i just dont see the point when we have Dwight and i don't see Fellows offering much more to give us a different skill set or dimension to the team.

This is literally what I’m talking about. It’s time to start changing the perception that we’re a club that routinely finishes below F U L H A M
Agreed, but until we do regularly finish above them, we can't blame players for choosing them over us. We don't have a right to be considered a better option than them if they regularly finish higher than we do.

People say things like, "We need to stop being seen as worse than X." But if we are objectively worse than X, that makes no sense. All we mean is: we need to get more points than X or progress further in cup competitions than X. Well of course we do, but how? By signing better players than them ... and we're back to the start of the circle unless we pay over the odds to convince them to come, which is precisely why we're in the mess we are.

I very much like your clarity of thinking there mate and hope there is something similar going on behind the scenes.

I'm expecting the peak of activity to occur during the tour.

I'm a little concerned but I guess that's to be expected. There is a conflict between the amount of signings needed, the total (limited) budget, and the practicalities of how the window works with timing.

Great to get Barry signed, and time coming to do more and ramp it up.

Fair point mate, the best laid internal plans and all that, everything wont all be on our terms as systemically a lot also depends on other stakeholders, options and the market, leverage, etc.

Agreed if we can get some mission critical stuff done during the tour that would be ideal.

Looking at the market i think things will kick off this week and go from there in terms of activity, money is beginning to trickle down the league now - with the CL clubs after making signings and money now hitting midtable clubs - which should flush out clubs in our tier with interest in players to make moves.

Im full sure we wont see Barry start PL games for a while, be amazed if Moyes gives him the nod before Oct, unless its the league cup.

remember that one good season he had were we all thought he was going to be boss.

Then he started to believe his own hyoena nd got a injury doing something stupid in a friendly. Was never the same again.

That one stupid decision completely changed the course of his career, mental

Personally I'm not convinced it's a hard luck story for Holgate. Was watching an episode of the Peter Crouch podcast recently, and both Crouch and Sidwell said they've both seen examples of players being handed big contracts and then completely downing tools. I'm convinced that's what Holgate has done.

The most high profile player I've seen do that in recent times is Aubameyang at Arsenal; handed a fat contract taking him well in to his 30's and was omitted from the squad in the end for 'disciplinary reasons.'

I think people get annoyed because of the number of women commentating on men's sports.

Not that Des Lynam won many league cups.

Of course the women are miles off the men technically. But there's more than enough money in the sport to continue improving the women's game.
I can't understand why. Women can understand football every bit as well (or as poorly) as male pundits.

Just to defend the Great Des Lyman's honour...He was a sports anchor, not a commentator.

But I see your point.

I don't find teamtalk credible but referring to a reliability guide on journalists , Rudy Galetti is tier 3 , sometimes accurate, but not complete nonsense so there could be something happening but obviously not definitive

The simple answer is a lot of those people are deep misogynists. They don’t like women liking ‘their’ things and will hound them out until they’re gone. Insecurity over being replaced by lesser people in their eyes.

Makes me extremely upset knowing that my daughter who loves playing will always have a large group of arl men mocking her passion because she’s not a boy. That’s the bottom line. They can make as many strawmans as they like.

It’s not about likes and dislikes, it’s when you feel compelled to degrade your dislikes.

Will happily take a ban for being off topic, it needs to be said. To be honest, as a woman, it’s not the first time I’ve been reminded that I’ll only ever be an outsider in this sport. Probably best I stick to being a viewer not a poster. Seen but not heard and all that.
