Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Not real but most likely not good enough to play any premier league games for us or even be in the squad, so not great preparation for the season is it?

Well if pickford is missing for league games we're in trouble no matter what.
Having tryer or the younger prospects involved in preseason won't change anything.

He scored 1 goal in the prem last year.
6G 5A the season before. He'll be a good asset and provide depth in a squad that desperately needs it.
We did start negotiating for Barry pre July. Joyce ran a story that we were in for him on June 13 and it was the 7th June when Matteo Moretto mentioned it as well.

Not forgetting that we were trying to sign Tete in June as well.

Ah yeah, the good old "step up the chase", "think about", "sniffing around", "toying with" and so on, with nothing else happening for a month+ afterwards, the Everton special.

Not sure in this case. He could have put in a transfer request, has no release clause, we are in no position to throw him into the kids teams and diminish his value. Would have been incredibly easy for him to force a move this summer.

Think it’s more a combination of the massive pay rise as you say, but also a rare dose of sanity from a young player knowing that he is still far too young and inexperienced to go and sit on Madrid’s bench or destroy his life by going to United. Very sensible decision by him and his family and great for us.
I wonder why we (and I'm not including myself) don't just be thankful he's signed a new deal and move on, rather then to figure out why he signed. Are there any psychiatrists in the room?

this is what I'm hoping for

if we wanted to reall go for it, play Alcaraz alongside Gana in certain games. McAtee at 10, and some rapid winger like Kubo or Doak or whoever they fancy

If we end up with a front 4 of for example:

Barry

N'Diaye Mcatee Kubo

It would be the most exciting forward line we've had since first year of Martinez.

Which is why the Evertonian in me Is sceptical and trying not to get too excited at the prospect ha ha

Why would Villa sell their captain? Don’t think this one has any legs at all personally
They went all out for a CL place they didn't get, and they just got hit with FFP sanctions by UEFA. I think they can't be too choosy over who they sell, and McGinn would probably be less of a miss to them than some of the others.

I like him and think he could do a job here, as long as it's not for silly money.

We shouldn't be really. Obviously nobody is going to be as good as Pickford but we should be able to bring in somebody who's not out of their depth at this level, we have before and pretty much every other club does.

But they’re just buzz words. How do you know that negotiations weren’t happening at that point? Something must have been going on for Joyce to report it.

The reality is that nobody has shown any inclination to pay anything like what we're looking for to buy him, so actually it probably wouldn't have been that easy for him to force a move. For all we as fans talk about Real Madrid and all that, the only proper interest that's been reported has been from United and Spurs, who have both just finished in the bottom half of the PL. Him signing a new contract is a positive, but I think it's right to say that it probably isn't anything to do with us showing more ambition or convincing him of anything, it's just something he's decided he's content to do.

I think you're right - nobody should swallow any rhetoric that comes out of the club, regardless who is in charge.

What I would say though is that there's a fair few variables on this window that I don't think people are really accepting the context of.

1) We do have a new team of people in charge, yes, but they've mostly been here 5 minutes and some of them are still on gardening leave
2) The fact we have a new regime in place could well mean that previous targets that we've done background work on under the last regime are now a thing of the past and we've had to start again - I've said before that actually signing a player is usually a really lengthy process that goes on for weeks (or months in some cases) because of the web of complex legal agreements that exist.
3) We are in a fairly unprecedented period (by Everton standards) in terms of the number of players we need to bring in this summer. It's a bit like a jigsaw - let's say we need 10 players for the sake of argument and we have (again, for the sake of argument) £100m to spend - you can't go and sign three players for that £100m and then hope to fill the squad out with frees and loans - that adds huge risk. You need to tee a lot of it up beforehand so you can make the educated decisions where to spend the money.

I would expect that we'll go right to the end of the window on some deals - there's still 7-8 weeks left of it. Yes, seeing players coming in sooner rather than later would be good, but it's probably unrealistic given the above that we'd see a huge amount of movement in the early part of the window.

But the main point you're absolutely on the money about is about being uncritical. Actions most definitely speak louder than words - I think there's clearly a "plan" that's coming to fruition on the leadership structure of the club, which is great to see, but that in itself has a knock-on effect to the pace of change in terms of players coming and going and that's the part we are all going to focus on, which makes me want to temper my own expectations about what we are seeing this window.

Good post this.
