Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Why oh why do we seemingly take an eternity to get signings over the line. Barry signing being a prime example. Is it me or do other clubs make it bids get fee etc agreed, couple of days later signing confirmed. Is it down to the endless haggling over fees.

We can’t currently offer European football.
We have to be careful on transfer fees / wages as PSR is still a constraint.
We have to try to sell a ‘project’ - new stadium, ambitions etc.
We are waiting for new recruits to join the management team - current gaps due to notice period / gardening leave etc.

All of the above means that we have to work hard on negotiations with limited resources.

Mcatee would be exactly the young, ambitious type of player we should be hoping to bring in.

However not too hopeful as we can’t offer European football and there seems to be a pattern of bundesliga clubs buying young English talent.

It’s right that we doubt the process. If we’re not doubting processes after everything that’s happened over the past 30 years then we deserve everything we get.

It’s certainly not at the panic stage yet but there’s no point denying most of us expected more to have been done by now. Getting a couple of people to sign new contracts is hardly impressive work, especially considering there were more who we wanted to stay and didn’t. We have a lot to do, at some point we’re going to have to start actually doing it.

Nowhere did I say it's impressive, did I? I said trust the process, the signing of contracts of which are perhaps the first stage. Maybe they had CB targets and DM targets had the Branthwaite and Gueye decisions not gone in the same manner? Maybe the people we've got in now view contracts as being the first stage? We'll probably never know for sure but it's just how I'm reading the room.

Oh look, Boyland just broke the Barry news. We've started, I guess? 🤔

The Harrison situation is concerning. It can't have been part of an overall strategy weeks ago to re-sign him, and if it was, it's not a very good strategy.

They just have to get though the hardball negotiating and come out with results. They do need to spread a thin budget as best they can.
You have to be prudent, but too much prudence leaves you back where you started.

with the introduction of lots of new players and the new stadium. Idrissa will play a big part in integrating everybody."

I mean Moyes himself has said lots of new players - it's there in digital black and white on the information super highway (official site).
