Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

You could accomplish the same by spending all 70m on the squad this year, and then selling 30m of the squad next year.

You don't need Roma for that. It's why Villa moves players on like Diaby, Duran etc.
But assuming a budget as is of 100m that 70m could potentially cover another 250m of amortisation and wages and I think in reality we would not spend 350m in one summer even if we had the PSR wiggle room. It would be better to preserve some PSR wiggle room for future years and finally end the dependency on annual player sales. The last thing we want is to have to sell players in future summers just to cover the amortisation / wages we already have let alone to improve the team. That's the situation we've been in.

IF this Wesley, Everton and Roma triangle deal took place there could be non-financial reasons.

  1. Perhaps Wesley has ambitions to play in the Premier League AND European Competition. He may agree to sign for us on the condition of being loaned to Roma for a year, with an option to buy included if we don't qualify for Europe next season. We might then get Celik on loan as the makeweight.
  2. Maybe Moyes likes him for the long-term but does not think he is ready for the Prem. Most RBs we have been linked with are more experienced. I think that younger talent will be prioritised for attacking areas, and he will want to steady backline.

I think that's a convenient way to think of it, but in practice we should be maximizing any windfall we have. We only get the profit injection once.

In addition, his fee and wages need to be accounted for on one of the P&Ls for the year. Either we expense it or Roma does. Why would we willfully expense $6 million on the EFC P&L? Would we do that for Sunderland? And if we just charge the wages and amortization to Roma, that doesn't help Roma at all.

Yeah my point was we would take the 6m hit this season in exchange for the 6m book profit next summer when we'd need it more.

I just don't see it as in any way sensible to max out the credit card by taking on the max possible amortisation / wages this year if there is no underlying income to pay for it in future seasons- that's very Moshirian. The profit bump persists for three years on the PSR calculation as things stand, spread it wisely and it could bolster us not burden us.

Why are people making out that we have loads of money and PSR headroom.

In our last set of account we lost £53 mill and that was after taking in close to £73 million in player sales - so without we would have lost about £120 odd mill.

People also saying Roma have FFP problems - they also haven't had two point deductions in the last 12 months by falling foul of regulations.

We dont have loads of money or PSR headroom - certainly not enough to be gifting £20 -£30 million to another football club.

It would be bananas.

The profit is selling the player next summer. We could just keep him for the season, play him, and sell him next summer and accomplish the same.

Also the way PSR is currently set up, your scenario is a wash for at least 3 seasons. We wouldn't see the benefit of it until the 25/26 numbers are completely out of the 3 year PSR equation.
