Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

If it is true it is likely to be a cashflow issue from Roma's perspective. It would be a good sign from Evertons perspective as means our budget could be much higher than we think. Likely that a loan fee would at least partially offset any amortisation (PSR) and this would in turn be partially offset by a Roma player loaned to Everton.
Everton would have the asset (player) and may sell to Roma or elsewhere and hopefully benefit from the profit on sale. Goes a bit tits-up if he gets injured or turns out to be a dud though...
IF it did happen (it’s probably nonsense) my guess it would probably relate to the TFG group pumping money into Everton via the women’s team sale within the group.

This would be a substantial increase in our transfer budget and they MIGHT feel like some of that group cash injection could be used to help out Roma without hindering Everton (the amortisation on the deal would be small compared to the PSR benefits of the sale). And of course while Roma would benefit from the player we’d gain the asset, and a young Brazilian international playing at a high level in Serie A could gain value rapidly.

It would also leave us with the liability though, people seem to keep forgetting to mention that bit. If he gains in value it's great, if he tanks it's not. I'm fine with us using the multi club model for mutually beneficial arrangements, I'm not overly keen on us just doing Roma a favour because our owners have decided to use one of our own assets to generate money in a way that they can't for Roma.

My 3rd guess would be...

If we already have budgets in place for positions e.g RB (Free) and cant actually afford to buy Wesley.

We could now actually afford to buy him if Roma paid off the 1year amortisation. They do this through a loan.

Then the cost from 12 months time could be covered from another source, e.g sales, sponsors etc

It's Friedkin's money being used. Not Everton's.

There seem to be expectations that the new owners will spend money to strengthen Everton's squad this summer. No one knows how much.

PSR should not be a problem. If it is, there are ways to work around it.
Theyre one and the same.

I am not bothered about loaning Wesley to Roma if we were to sign him. Some posters seem to be forgetting that there could be issues in obtaining a work permit for him, especially considering that he is only 21 and coming from the Brazilian Serie A. Another thing to bear in mind is that a loan move to Roma would offer him the opportunity for him to gain experience in European football before joining us.

Any business we do this summer for a right-back will likely result in a stop-gap signing anyway, so we might as well sign a right-back for the long-term and loan him out if we can't bring him into the side immediately.
