Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Different countries/leagues have different implementations of FFP/PSR.

I don't know the ins and outs of what Italian clubs can do or can't, but over the last decade we have seen a ton of transfers that has been announced as loan with mandatory purchase after 12 months. There seen to be some kind of loophole.

And even if Roma were allowed to buy Wesley themselves this summer, that could affect what other business they can do. From what I have read promises about new signings were given to lure Gasparini away from his successful spell at Atalanta.

That’s all good but nothing about it benefits Everton.

Why does it need to benefit Everton?

It helps Roma. The same way loaning Roma players will help Everton.

Example: Everton buy him for £20 million and sign him for 5 years. Then Roma signs him on loan with a £4 million loan fee and mandatory purchase for £18 million next summer. Everton can easily make a profit without paying the player anything. He doesn't even need to visit Liverpool.

It's not like we have less to spend this summer because of this Wesley deal. If it doesn't affect PSR it doesn't affect how much Everton can spend.

If that’s the case why don’t Roma just buy him as opposed to paying a loan fee, it would be 4 mill a year anyway in amortisation, every year. Therefore they won’t be paying an equivalent loan fee to a year ammortisation.

Everton making a profit on him next year from Roma just means TFG loose money. If the cost to them now is 20mill and the cost next year is 22mill - why would they charge themselves 2 million - they wouldn’t and won’t.

Roma paying £22 million for a player available for £20 million doesn’t make sense either. You haven’t given me a valid reason Roma can’t just buy him outright themselves.

It’s all moot because it won’t happen.

No idea how football finances are for Serie A clubs, but there are limits to what Roma can spend. They desperately needed a sale this week to balance their books.

As mentioned, Wesley is a player Gasperini tried to sign to Atalanta. And with so many clubs in for him this summer, they are not likely to get his Brazilian club to agree on loan with mandatory purchase next summer.

It's not like it's something new to sign players you don't plan to play. It happens all the time.

Everton doubled their money on Henry Onyekuru. Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi was a Liverpool player for 6 years without qualifying for work permit. They made good money on that signing.

We surely would not receive a loan fee of 6M from Roma for Wesley. That would not help Roma at all with FFP.

The only way how it makes sense for Roma is that we buy the player and then loan him out without a fee but with an obligation to sell for next summer for the same fee. Roma would move start of the amortisation for buying player into the next year. Our finances would be therefore used for a year with a guaranteed future profit.

The problem here is it would not really help us in any way for this season, we would only be helping Roma, while only getting a small guaranteed profit for our accounts next year, if the obligation would be for the same fee as we bought him. We would help Roma to buy the player they want a year earlier than their finances allow, while getting a small boost next year.

Even worse variants would involve Roma getting the player for free by using our finances. But currently I cannot imagine Friedkins would do that...

It needs to benefit Everton because we’re Everton fans who support Everton

Roma are into a new financial year from yesterday, same as us mate. They had to raise 16 mill before July the 1st not to fail Uefa FFP, they did that, Uefa had imposed a 60 mill aggregated limit on how much losses they could make in the financial year 24/25.

One for you @Zatara 👀 know you’ve mentioned him a few times recently

@Zatara is going to have a heart attack seeing that.

This bloke is as reliable as they come. So Gasperini wants Wesley as a priority, but financially Roma can’t do the deal reading between the lines. So they use us to buy him and take the hit on our accounts, to then let Roma get the player? They wouldn’t dare surely? They’d be run out of town sharpish!

And another

He looks ace and Celik looks awful.

The story would make sense if we were well up on FFP. Unless, we sign him then loan him and he comes back to us after a year in Rome.

Otherwise makes no sense.

Would be nice to sign him, Brazil caps this year.
