Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Burnley have signed their 8th player today.

Meanwhile we are waiting on Michael Keane news.

Leave signings late = ineffective pre season = slow start to regular season.

Don’t f*** it up Everton, we’ve been here so many times.
Do we want the players they are signing, would they improve us?

Different aims and targets, so not really a valid comparison

Honestly I think people get it mate. He plays if 2 are unavailable. He’s the one that is your 4th choice of 4.
If only it was so simple. If Tarkowski isn't fully fit then we are left relying on Coleman to keep O'Brien from starting at RB and Keane starting. Surely not another season of throwing away the first 9-12 points.

I quite enjoy Mark Douglas' articles, he did some good stuff in the leadup to the TFG takeover and afterwards too.

If correct, and it's always an if, good that we have applied some discipline for the Barry negotiations. Hopefully we get it done early next week.

I don't think we'll get a double digit number of signings but there may be a little more legroom than we thought for spending. Barry would be amongst our most expensive signing if not the most expensive.

A hamstring injury requiring surgery at his age isn't good.
You're right but think we'll be on top of it tbh. If they reckon he won't be as available next season I think we will see another cb come in.

If not they're backing him to stay fit, Moyes was clear that availability is a big factor in decisions being made this summer.

There is a month and 13 days before the first game.

Yeah I think this is fair enough, if Keane is 4th choice CB then we absolutely need to nail a good right back down.
Keane has haunted me as a fan for so many years that I just can’t get on board with resigning him. But with that being said, this feels like the key part of it for me. If we get a good right back in then O’Brien moves to being the top CB back up. And we saw Moyes move him inside towards the end of the year. Partially out of necessity but I do think that’s the plan.

We haven’t had a good right back in years, and the added bonus will mean we effectively strengthen center back as well.

What position do we sacrifice in terms of quality to sign better than Michael Keane who may not play?

It's obvious that we are still counting the pennies with the need to re-sign players for cover.
By the looks of things we are going to have to compromise all over the pitch given the links so far. The only position we are looking like spending any real money on is CF (which is obviously the correct move if we have a limited budget). Our fourth choice CB will play games. They did last season and we are more shorthanded this season. Some are comfortable with Michael Keane, it seems you are for example. I'm not sure what those who are up for him staying on have seen him during his performances for us but all I've seen is an utter liability.

Your premise seems to be that if we let Keane go and have to replace him then that will mean we won't be able to sign our first choice player in some other starting position but I've seen little evidence to support that thesis.

I also don't think anyone is proposing letting Keane go and replacing him with an expensive CB. Keane, by the way, isn't cheap. His last contract was £80k a week by all accounts. He may take a pay cut but he's not suddenly going to accept the £20-30k that many on here seem to think he will be getting next season.

That makes it all the more surprising that we gave Coleman a deal and tried to sign Tete on a free.
