Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Junior Furball is off to Real Betis unfortunately.

You say that but here he is at finch farm right now!

Just gonna pop this in here, save the 6358 forum members (including myself) the trouble of finding it again when we want to post it in the Barry thread.

I think the issue was entirely the contract.

Why exactly? If he'd have been good they'd have kept him. It was a standard contract that triggered a permanent transfer if they were promoted. Covid meant there was a date for that to be activated but the season overran that date. Like I say, if he'd have been decent, Leeds would have kept him, if Covid never happened, there'd have been no loophole for them to try and exploit.

They clearly made a mistake agreeing to pay so much for him, but then other clubs do that all the time. Difference there was Leeds thought they could get out of it. As it happens, it turns out every court they've gone before has told them it was a perfectly legally binding contract and they would have to honour it.

Tend to agree with you mate. Aren't there some off the pitch red flags about him though ?
Believe so mate. Suppose Seamus and Jake could give us an idea as to his character and whether he’d be worth the risk. Barely got a sniff at West Ham even under Potter which is a big concern. Could see his career falling off massively if he doesn’t get the next move right.

We need to have at least half of our business done in July in my opinion. 4 from 8 signings or thereabouts.

I don't think we can start the season with just a couple of new faces and sit on things until the last week.

The period between the beginning of the season and the end of the window tends to be very unproductive for transfers and everything tends to be pushed to the last day/couple of days.

That's fine for loan deals when clubs are finalising who they need and don't need but not for any other business.

Clubs can smell panic and they raise fees accordingly. It also leads to otherwise prudent judgement being abandoned in some cases.

They need to be active in the next 4-5 weeks to the fullest extent possible.

The worry will be managing the tension and the market, the longer we go the more compromises we may have to make, the job of work is that big a bite. We still may not be that attractive proposition for players, certainly the ones who you may want who may have multiple threads of interest, we will be a trust project. Be interesting.

That looks like Doucoure having his photo taken with the crest.

It’s OK, Prince William is there, ready to run in and stab him in the leg with a pencil if it at any point looks like he’s going to re-sign for us.

Kin ell, Jhon Duran off to Fenerbahce for £65m!!! Gotta be a blag figure that, as the Turks love a loan only. That must be all the interest they have accrued from the Yobo money they didn’t want to pay us!

I would give him a go on loan. Unfortunately we are desperate in that area...

I would too. Loan with an option. High risk (in the sense it’s very likely not to work out) but high reward.

Also worth noting that I’m currently in Brazil about to do a favela tour so I’ll keep an eye out for a kid who looks like they can slot. Boots on the ground scouting.

Very clearly it's a big and complicated task. The longer without developments, the more frayed the nerves, both within the club and without.

Seems to me like a high-stakes game of darts. How many attempts are you going to have to land on the double before your opponent swoops in? And repeat that 8 or 10 times.

The most important thing for me is ensuring there is sufficient quality and affordability in our 2nd and 3rd options in each position. That prep work has either been done or it hasn't.

Let's say 3 options x 10 signings = 30 possibilities. Delap and Tete out. Nor we will get that many imo so can we get 8/28 that are good enough?

Bearing in mind the size of the squad currently, surely we can. There is no such thing as a perfect window and there will be issues and constraints but I'm expecting them to deliver something that equates to "good enough" and a 7/10 window.

If this is a new era then we should be beyond the violin treatment - the old "We tried" and phantom bids.

I think you can subdivide it again in terms of quality control mate.

If you look at mission critical its at 9, 10 (hybrid) and 7. Possibly at 8 as well. Thats four positions that you absolutely need throw resources at and not compromise to a degree that you are stuck with your 5th or 6th choice on a five year deal £25 mill lighter. Investing well in those positions significantly changes the match day team.

I personally believe the type of players we want in the positions above we are going to struggle to get - not that we wont get them but it wont come easy, like it or not - the players we will want to improve us with the sufficient quality, will likely have options, thus we are either throwing money at them or working hard to convince them - likely it will prob be both and all that may come later to its own deadline later in the window. I wouldn't comprise on those positions on quality and would be frontloading my resources to ensure we execute that.

The defence is strong - it just needs supplementing, we could do without having to invest in a new centre half so Keane is fine and a necessary compromise, we could do with a couple of full backs, but a loan or a free might be the compromise until we can look at it again in another window. The options of the bench may be our loans and further comprimises

For me 9. 10, 7 and 8 are non negotiables in terms of compromise on quality maybe a cut off of at 3rd/4th of a choice on our list. Further back and padding out the squad we can compromise and make do with a few risks - our defence is our strongest line by far.

I still think we struggle to attract the type of quality we will need, im not saying we wont get it, but there will be a bit of holding the tension and sticking to and trusting a plan. We are a trust project in the market at the moment for players in my honest opinion.
