But that’s irrelevant to the point I was making isn’t it, so no matter how slowly I read it, it still won’t be a good point.

Your point was that he would’ve commanded a decent fee wasn’t it? That’s like sort of exactly what you said word for word?

He could’ve commanded a decent fee, but he never did in the 9 years he was at the football club. That he’s now leaving on a free would be our fault if we’d been knocking back bids left right and centre.

Yes, in the same way that I’m not aware of anybody ever bidding for Pickford but I wouldn’t be overly keen on us releasing him tomorrow. I wasn’t saying he was a £100m player, just that he’s clearly good enough to play PL football and has been an important part of our squad and so it’s not ideal to lose him for free and have to spend quite a lot of money to replace him. It’s not a particularly difficult thing to understand or very controversial really, it’s just basic common sense.

How do we know what offers the club did or didn't receive?

Don't get me wrong I'm not sad to see him go and I think we can do better but the suggestion that he wasn't worthy of a transfer fee throughout his tenure can neither be proved or not ( unless you are employed by the club / his agent and privy to that info)

I think it all depends on factors we cannot know.

What are his wage demands?
How much we have to spend?
Other transfers we may already have committed to from 1 July.
Do we know if he has had actual solid interest from any other club?
Have we received any enquiries for Beto?

If his wage demands are £100k a week and we are only offering £80k a week then we are haggling over 20k or £1m a season. The question then becomes if we could replace him for £1m transfer fee?

If it were me, I would be tempted to make him a good offer on a 3 year deal which is then topped up with incentives heavily based on goals and minutes. See if DCL backs his body to still do the business as he will know better than anyone.

If he stays great as hopefully have beto dcl barry. Just ready for whatever now just bored of the whole situation with him at the minute.

You think in this day and age, it wouldn’t have been leaked through his agent if the club had received a significant bid for him? Especially since the player himself has been openly wanting out and basically begging someone to come and buy him. I’m not on board with that one somehow.

Better to part ways, the return hasn't been good enough. As a squad player for 50-60k a week, maybe, but his demands surely aren't much lower than his current 100k wage, which is will be among the highest in the squad. I think there were rumors of him asking for an even better wage the last few months.

Too many injuries, lack of scoring. We need to better going forward.

You'd imagine he / his agent was waiting on the free agent to get more, not less wages. Why would he ask for less wages ?

Only question is whether other clubs will give him extra wages to offset having to pay a fee for an alternative target.

Somebody may well do but it's probably best it isn't us.

I would have been curious whether he would have turned up like Beto under Moyes without the injuries. My guess is no.

But I agree, cannot justify him being in the same wage region as Gueye, Tarks and Pickford that show performances on the pitch and rarely have off days.

The signs were that he would. Considering he scored an excellent goal in the game vs spurs.

Not a fan, but ideally id like him to sign a new three year deal, play some role this year and we sell him next. Overall we managed this badly last summer in my opinon, i would have had a deadline in July and would have sold him then.

Hes gone in my opinion, whatever we offered him had a deadline and that deadline i suspect was before this Tues.

Id have liked to have gotten money for him.
