Confirmed Signing Thierno Barry

I didn't watch him. The one game I have seen him in he was awful and I don't recall anyone on here being blown a way by how he played in the other games. He did score a tap in against Georgia though.

This isn't really relevant to us as a club imo. Where we are as a club, etc. Can we really attract the talents that blow people away consistently? Most of those are already taken, unfortunately. "Gambling" on inconsistency - which generally aligns with youth for the record - is about where we are. "Gambling" on Moyes' and the staff around him helping players realise potential through coaching/man management is about where we are. We saw it with Beto last season, and he's older than this lad, that Moyes can still do it.

If the plan is to bring Barry in and throw him in at the deep end, I'd probably be hesitant myself. I doubt that's the case, though, personally. I think the plan is to nurture him alongside Beto while loaning out Chermiti. We may even see another experienced head come in. One thing for sure is there are no absolutes in this game. We've all been around long enough to know that.

Maybe, the fact that he didn't display any of the other skills required for a striker wouldn't count in his favour.
The single most important skill for a striker to have is a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He has that and clearly demonstrated that last night.

Besides that it's really not difficult to see that he is very strong in the air and good at carrying and protecting the ball. If you couldn't tell that from the game last night its easy enough to see in stats and YouTube. Because as others have pointed out, if Moyes is trying to sell this signing to TFG he isn't limited to showing them 45 minutes of 1 game.

Exactly not good enough, we need a statement signing.
Who would be a statement signing mate? That would realistically choose Everton, that is?

Ndiaye was far from a statement signing last year, but if we signed him right now, having had the season he had last year for us, for another club, he would be. Haven’t we spent years on here clamouring to be the club discovering these talents rather than spending out to other PL clubs that did so first?

Strange you use Hojlund as an example.

If he was used as a rotation option (as Barry may be to begin with) and there was an experienced CF in the squad to take the weight and pressure off his shoulders...

...he would be able to develop at his own pace and not be thrown to the wolves.

If we sign a young player then that cant mean we sell Beto. That would be absolute madness.
Who was HĆøjlund in rotation with? He started 25 out of the 30 league matches he was available his first season at United.

Can you give me examples of clubs that successfully have a rotation between to strikers?

The closest I see to that is Atletico Madrid, but they do it very different playing two up top and constantly doing early subs to keep 4-5 striker options fresh. Villa tried last season resulting in both Watkins and Duran being unhappy.

I am a firm beliver in that strikers need trust and that a team is built for them to perform.

A player such as Gyokeres was a big talent. He had three loans in 2. Bundesliga and Championship without impressing anyone. From the day Coventry decided to sign him permanently and he went from being a rotation alternative to the main man, he hasn't looked back.

Similar with Liam Delap. Tearing the youth leagues apart and looking like the best English striker talent in years. He hardly scored when on loan for Stoke, Preston and Hull. Many were shocked when Ipswich agreed to sign him for £20 million last summer. But making him the main man changed everything. He went from being a struggling Championship striker to impressing everyone in Premier League.

There was no coincidence when Beto went from being shocking when he got minutes from the bench or the odd start to looking half decent as soon as he got more minutes and more starts in a row. That's the nature of football for goal scorers. They need a team around them to help them shine and they need to be able to miss a few chances without risk being benched the next month.
