Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

It's sort of what I would call the Kevin Kilbane paradigm.

Didn't set the world on fire but was ok for a couple of years.

We all often want the world beaters, or young high potential players. But if you throw too many young unknowns in to a losing team, they lose confidence and regress (sort of what happened in 2017).

I'm not sure if the post refers to Longstaff, but I can see the sense in such a signing on that basis.

I'm increasingly drawn to Occums Razor with this stuff. If you sign a player who has played in the league, to fill a position, you start to improve. To be fair to Moyes, I'd imagine he will want players who make us better next season and will allow others to worry about what happens beyond that.
Yeah exactly. They don’t necessarily have to be old or domestic or whatever either, it’s just that not every signing you make is going to be a world beater. Mangala for example last year was never going to make himself the first name on the teamsheet but he was a decent player who offered something to the squad. Bringing people like that in is absolutely fine, we’re not going from what we’ve seen in the last few years to the top 4 overnight, we don’t need to go chasing rainbows, it’s fine to accept that upper midtable is the realistic aim and recruit accordingly.

They always get linked with top players but just seem to avoid them. I can’t remember the last time they made a statement signing that I really thought was going to move the needle, you could maybe say Rice but that’s pushing it. They’re going backwards under Arteta for me, can’t see them troubling the top 2 in the slightest.
It depends what you class as moving the needle I suppose. I think rice is superb myself, and zubimendi is theoretically as good a midfield signing as you’re going to make. They blatantly need a top class striker but if they get one and don’t finish top 2 then arteta will definitely have failed and have to go.

Regarding the Transfer rumor originating from Sébastien Vidal, after doing some detective work on the interwebs it doesn't seem like a legitimate source of information, he had an exclusive on his Facebook page that pervis the fullback from Brighton was going to united and that was 3 weeks ago. So the fofana rumor appears false to me

Too many individuals parading around as so-called "transfer jounalists" for every rumor to be trustworthy. Even the most reliable of transfer journalists make poor calls on occasion, yet there are some who never make the right call on a transfer and will just share information for likes and engagement. That's why it is always best considering speculation to be speculation alone and nothing more.

Personally, I only trust El Bobble, The Athletic and Paul Joyce (Times). Whilst Sky Sports and Romano were once reliable, I believe that their reliability has faded for several reasons, including agent manipulation. It seems to me that when an ITK receives too much information, they eventually get cut out of the loop to be replaced by the next ITK on the carousel.

It may be false in a sense but seems some hints have been given out by certain knowledgeable blues…

This isn’t the point he was trying to make but…

God knows. 2017/18 we signed Pickford, klaassen, Rooney, vlasic, siggy, Keane, Sandro and martina. As well as some other young players.

If you’re comparing that transfer window to this one, the big difference was two rounds of Europa League qualifying starting in late July. They had to buy in a hurry for squad depth and to get them eligible to play in Europe. Then they went right out and played competitive matches. No wonder they bought quite a lot of crap.

They've signed zubimendi? They've upgraded their midfield this summer. If they get sesko or Gyokerres then no excuses for not winning the league next season...they've finished 2nd the last 3 seasons?

And tbf they had shocking injuries last season
