We need a first choice top class midfielder bringing in alongside ganaIt does sound like we'll be looking for a few frees in midfield and at the back and putting the money towards wingers/striker.
I think he may have doneMate , Messi wouldn't have made much difference to that Burnley side
If signing Brownhill allowed Armstrong to be eased in and replace him in a year or two would you be happy with that? You’re actually saying accept mediocre, there’s surely better free’s than brownhill. I’d rather give the minutes to Harrison Armstrong.
Buying relatively cheap and young with potential is much better than old mediocrity on a free.
Remember when some people thought he could play defensive midfield.Crikey, don't sign him if he isnt better than Ben Godfrey.
So you think brownhill is coming in to actually start games?? He will want a 3yr deal and we will be stuck with him untill he walks away on a free. He’s not good enough to start for us and where we want to be next season. Armstrong should definitely go on loan, but if Brownhill is going to be on the bench and getting minutes, I’d rather give them to a youngsterIf signing Brownhill allowed Armstrong to be eased in and replace him in a year or two would you be happy with that?
Brownhill is not a clever free transfer thoughThe world is littered with examples proving otherwise. Godfrey cost 20 million whilst Tarkowski was unfancied and acquired for free from Burnley, and there's no question who has been by far the better transfer.
We need to do both anyway. We need to pick up clever free transfers and then use our transfer budget to purchase players that have already proven their potential imo, and are entering the best years of their career.
One problem about your last bit, is we can’t attract 23/24/25 yr olds at the top level. Because one, they cost to much and two they want the top clubs, so you end up with the 3rd/4th tier of this group of players. The world is littered with examples proving otherwise. Yes, we also need depth. Armstrong isn’t ready, Gana is 35. Brownhill is only ‘bad’ if we don’t sign any other midfielder - which is unlikely. We need a first choice top class midfielder bringing in alongside gana
You need a squad to create competitionThe ideas of squad fillers and backups is a poor mentality because they cost the team when they play.
It’s about creating competition.
