Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Buying relatively cheap and young with potential is much better than old mediocrity on a free.

The world is littered with examples proving otherwise. Godfrey cost 20 million whilst Tarkowski was unfancied and acquired for free from Burnley, and there's no question who has been by far the better transfer.

We need to do both anyway. We need to pick up clever free transfers and then use our transfer budget to purchase players that have already proven their potential imo, and are entering the best years of their career.

If signing Brownhill allowed Armstrong to be eased in and replace him in a year or two would you be happy with that?
So you think brownhill is coming in to actually start games?? He will want a 3yr deal and we will be stuck with him untill he walks away on a free. He’s not good enough to start for us and where we want to be next season. Armstrong should definitely go on loan, but if Brownhill is going to be on the bench and getting minutes, I’d rather give them to a youngster

Brownhill is not a clever free transfer though

One problem about your last bit, is we can’t attract 23/24/25 yr olds at the top level. Because one, they cost to much and two they want the top clubs, so you end up with the 3rd/4th tier of this group of players.
So you that’s why going for younger players not quite proven with potential is the way to go. Yes I get we need to odd older head, cheap With experience. But there’s also a level there and we should be able to get better than brownhill
