Transfer Rumour Kyle Walker

Uhh, I just dislike the guy.

His head's not right.

I don't recall him putting a great cross in for ages, he was clearly goal shy at the Euros where Spain repeatedly pulled him out of position for both winners.

He's not top drawer now.

Time's caught up with him. Italian league slower, would suit him. He was so for it ... Why's that all changed?

I do understand the rational comments about, 'he's a regular RB', 'JoB plays centre whilst tarks crocked'. Makes sense, yes.

What's his injury record like last season/s? Is he gonna be available at match level quickly?

Having said all this, I was cautious about Moyes return, and so far ok.

This is soooo short term and risky.
Purely looking at the player and ability, he may be better than what we have, but...
...he is only going downhill from here
...if he solves a problem in that position, it's only in the very short term
...he will be a pretty expensive (wages) way to solve it

I would hope we would look at a longer term solution for less or the same kind of outlay.

What’s crazy is people saying he’s lost his pace. Sure he isn’t what he was, but he’s still 100% quicker than anything in our side.
He recorded a top sprint speed in the PL of 35.2 Kmph last season. Everton's quickest player was Calvert-Lewin who recorded 34.6 kmph, so yep that is what the data is saying

His speed seems to be the primary question…

Some good bits on that in this Athletic article from January:

Sure enough, according to Opta, Walker’s top speed in the Premier League this season (35.2 kilometres per hour) is down on last season, but only fractionally. It is further down from his highest-recorded speed two seasons ago (37.3kmph), but almost identical to his highest three seasons ago (35.3kmph), which illustrates the difficulty of drawing conclusions from such data.

Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven(37.1kmph) leads that particular table comfortably from Walker’s City team-mate Matheus Nunes (36.7kmph), then come Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo and Wolves’ Carlos Forbs (both 36.6kmph). No other player has got beyond 36kmph, so Walker’s top speed is still among the fastest, just behind his City team-mate Erling Haaland (35.7 m/hour).

It’s conclusion ends up being that his speed isn’t his problem, it’s his lapses in concentration - which I guess could manifest like he’s being slow because of failure to anticipate.

From reports it seems clear we won’t be spending money in the RB position, walker/coufal/walker-peters/tete - pros and cons for each one I guess. If a short term stop gap was the aim then surprised we didn’t just keep hold of young for another season.

Haven’t seen Walker play for a long while but his career dip suggests he ain’t what it was. Does a 60%version of him improve us in the short term?

Flat out speed isn’t particularly important in football. The quickest flat out sprinters in the league are not always the players you would think of as noticeably quick. Acceleration is way more important because once you are ahead in a foot race it is very difficult for players to run round another. He has clearly lost some of his acceleration.

If its basically the Ashley young type deal then could be worse...
Gives us another year to find a long term replacement whilst allocating funds elsewhere..

Still would prefer walker Peters if he'd come

Why Walker-Peters? Just because he's free and used to be rated 5+ years ago?

He'll want a long term deal which ia an albatross.

I have always liked him tbh and i think Everton and Moyes would suit him. A short term contract would be fine by me and see how it goes.
