Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Still got the legs. First choice LB for Argentina.
Same sort of profile as Mykolenko though - he's defensively solid, but he gives you very little in terms of build up play with the ball.

What we desperately need on that side is some quality in terms of delivery and progressing the ball - if Ndiaye is encouraged to drift into central areas, that means our left back has to provide attacking width. Mykolenko is poor at this, despite trying to step it up under Moyes, and it isn't Tagliafico's game either. We were a little bit spoiled by 15 years of Baines then Digne, but quality on the ball has to be what you're looking for in another left back. There's nothing wrong with Mykolenko's defensive contribution, that isn't the issue, it's what happens when we have the ball and that should be the area of focus.

Hard to argue with any of this. I'm just wondering how many "all-rounder" LBs are available on the market? It seems like anyone we could go for would represent a risk as they'd likely be a rookie to the Premier League. It could go well e.g. Kerkez but it could be deer in the headlights e.g. Patterson

You only have to look at how Patterson is treated after a mistake to know a large portion of our fanbase just aren't ready for it.

another link to Anthony Caci this morning, the 27year old french fullback can play either RB or LB and is know for getting forward and joining in the attacks, believed to be available for £8.5m from Mainz, he got 1 goal and 7 assists last season.

This is fair comment, but Mykolenko isn't a terrible player. If we took a slight gamble on a left back with genuine attacking quality, you have the potential to be able to bed him in gradually. We didn't ever really have that with Patterson because of his own injury issues and Coleman's - essentially any time Patterson looked like getting a run he got injured and he was also thrown in when he shouldn't have been because of Coleman's injuries a couple of times.

FWIW there was similar apprehension about Baines when he first arrived - Lescott was preferred at left back for a little while!

Think the numbers we need to get in are going to dictate that all players we get in are going to get the fans excited.
Think myself it will be a mixed bag , of out of contact /low fee, gambles from lower league / Foreign players and the odd couple to get excited about.
Don't think we have the money or the current profile of a club to go out and get 5 or 6 high profile players in, couple of seasons on that might change.

Funnily enough, I was there when he scored that goal. Can't say I really noticed him in the game much though

Charly Alc
I'll be happy to get to July 1 so we know for definite what's going on. Still no extension for Gueye, concerning that we haven't been informed that Keane and Calvert-Lewin are leaving. Knowing our luck, Gueye will get a mega-money offer from Saudi, and we'll keep the other two.

The club needs to be making moves quickly, the longer it goes on without any movement, the more concerning it will become for the fans who will get the impression that money for a rebuild of sufficient quality - ie. to have us challenging for Europe which has to be the aim given how tight the league is - is not there.
Were a lot less leakier these days, so hopefully more of our signings will be like the Charly Alcaraz one.

The first we heard about it was when Flamengo announced it on their website. Zero rumours in advance.

It’ll be similar with contract extensions. We’ll only find out the outcome when the signatures are dry.

I loved him from the start. Before we even signed him. Still love him now although the restraining order has soured it a little for me

1 goal and 2 assists in 18 games under Moyes (I'm only basing it under Moyes as Dyce wouldn't let him go over the halfway line).......for a full back who's first priority is to defend, is a decent outlay

Compare that to Keane Lewis Potter, who i thought was great last season at left back for Brentford (converted from left forward), 1 goal and 4 assists in 38 games
Kerkez got 2 goals and 6 assists in 38 games, which is good, but not far off what Mykolenko might get in a full Moyes season?

He's not perfect by any means, and a lot lies on him being our only left back, but he's improved massively going forward 2nd half of the season. Especially if you consider our best attacking player plays in front of him
