2024/25 Jordan Pickford

Tiresome. It’s such a lazy and uninformed argument for someone as experienced as Pickford.

In terms of pressure:

Playing a dozen CL games, mostly against minnows in the group stage, behind a presumably top quality defence.

Vs

Almost single handedly at times keeping one of world footballs most storied and historic clubs in the top division with the threat of a billion£ stadium in the Championship. Often stood behind Keane, Godfrey, Holgate etc.

🧐

To hear it from Talksport wafflers is annoying. When managers start saying it it’s shows total lack of conviction and belief in their own choices. Equivalent of dropping your record goalscorer who is still at their peak and scoring reliably ā€œjust to see something different.ā€ Why on earth would anyone ever do that.

I don’t get this whole needs to play in Europe thing.
If we qualified for Europa league we’d be playing the likes of Roma, Lyon etc.
In the league we are in surely playing the likes of city, arsenal, them lot etc is a higher standard?
It’s not like playing in Europe would then elevate the standard of player we are playing against
Tuchel probably just wants the FA to finance more trips across Europe instead of going to Sunderland v Leeds

There's overrated and then there is Pickford who is genuinely over hated.

We have given him his fair share over the years but we can see despite his flaws he's also kept in in games on his own at times.

Persecution complex on our part? Not at all. He's constantly targeted by pundits and media who cannot wait for a mistake out of him so they can say I told you so. Shearer being the main culprit. Wonder why that is?

Columbia and Sweden games in 2018 he made some crucial stops. Italy in the euro final he should have been the hero. He will never get his flowers off the RS and Geordie loving media but in tournaments he's been one of England's most consistent performers.

He's outlasted numerous keepers that were supposed to take his place. So his only crime seems to be that no one has stepped up to dethrone him. They seem to forget he's not had the luxury of the likes of Ferdinand, Campbell and Terry in front of him. A centre back pairing has been a real problem for England for years.

I had some simpleton at work telling me before the last Euros how Ramsdale should be England's number 1 without offering an ounce of compelling evidence. The same Ramsdale Arsenal binned off at the first opportunity and found himself at Southampton all last season shoring up their defence 🤨

To me it's just another way of keeping teams where Sky want them, not picking Braithwaite because he isn't playing in Europe is absolutely mental, and it makes the player think about moving especially in a world cup year.. Braithwaite decides he needs to move hands in a transfer request the super massive clubs know he wants a move so submit low ball offers, then we have no option but to accept one as there's no point in having a player that doesn't want to be there.

Branthwaite has plenty of experience playing in Europe, he played 27 games for PSV Einhoven. Thats a more complete European experience than many other players in the England team, who simply play English league tactics against other national league tactics. Branthwaite has been embedded in it for a season.

Don't you know Dan Burn and Trevoh Chalabah are better players?
