Transfer Rumour Jack Grealish

You're probably right but that would be the problem for me. He's played at City mostly on the left so we would be relying on him to perform at a level in a position he hasn't played in c. 3-4 years. I just feel there is an awful lot of wishful thinking in the signing and that we would be reading a lot of "on his day..." type posts rather than having a consistent player week in week out. If you tell me he's guaranteed to be Grealish of old it's a no brainer but it's a risky move and one I'd ideally not take when we are just trying to start the journey at the 'Hill Dickinson'.

This is the best post in the thread, we absolutely won’t do the deal if it blows up our wage structure.

Even at half, other teams will offer more, that’s before you look at other draws elsewhere like Europe or an emotional draw to Villa.

This doesn’t seem like a deal that suits either us or the player other his club selling (such as it is).

Be surprised if this happened, I don’t think it will.
I would say the only way this happens is because the player wants it, and pushes for it with a reduction in his demands.

He seems like a bit of a homebody, which could affect his willingness to go and play abroad, even though I echo the sentiment he would be pretty good in Italy. If he wants to stick around locally, we are his only option really.

He won't go to Villa, since they missed out on Champions League they are snookered financially. They need to offload considerably this summer. Utd- maybe, they could be mental enough to try it. But realistically, we are the only club that will allow him to stay settled where he lives now, close to his family and offer regular first team football.

I still feel a Newcastle or Spurs is more likely though, despite all the links hotting up.

Be astounded if he ended up here on a permanent deal. Hes on about £300k p/w and city would surely want north of £30m. Just makes zero sense financially at his age and he’s not taking a 50% pay cut.

Surely playing for Everton is a big draw itself? We are a major club, despite being down on our luck.

Why take the risk though, we’ve been bottom half for what close to half a decade, any new signing is taking us on trust as a project- that we we will (hopefully) be competing in the top 10, never mind Europe.

If Grealish has offers from say Villa who are his boyhood club - could pay him 300k - offer European Football, the same with Spurs and Newcastle - why would you take on a trust project.

He’s 30, he’d not trying to improve himself, his motivation will be short term goals, securing vis financial future and making the England squad for the next tournament let’s be honest from point of view - the likes of the European clubs Villa, Newcastle and Spurs will enhance his profile competing for cups and playing in Europe. While they can also pay his wages on loan - I’d be surprised if Newcastle or Spurs did to be honest.

From Grealish’s point of view, why would he take a risk on us if, he doesn’t have to.

Villa can’t afford his wages due to PSR. He doesn’t have a huge amount of options, really.

No

Man Utd were paying 25% of his wage.

Which is about 213k a week mate. They also had a similar deal with Asenio. That sum destroys our wage structure.

They can afford it, the attraction of a loan for them is they can plan from year to year without adding to their amortisation without committing to a contract - that actually suits the protection, in their position in my opinion.

I’m not against Grealish coming - he’d improve the team, but it makes 0 sense, from our, his or his selling teams point of view - for a deal to happen you need those 3 things aligned.

It’s just to illogical in my opinion to be realistic or happen mate.

We can’t afford his wages due to PSR either mate. Nor likely the contagion that it would bring.

Villa could do it last season with Rashford and Asenio, wasn’t Rashford on 350k a week.
Villa definitely can't next season though. Those wages for Rashford and Asensio were a roll of the dice to get champions league again, which failed. They need to sell considerably this summer, apparently they already breached UEFA profit rules last season too, as well as being on a knife edge with PSR.

Edit: I'm not saying its likely he ends up here instead, but Villa won't be an option for him

Tbh I think Villa have moved on from him since he left. Emery has built a solid team/squad - Grealish was the golden boy when he was there surrounded by a pretty average team. Can't see Emery going for him.
Agreed, I know Villa fans and he's not exactly loved by them either with the way he left. Similar to us with Rooney. I think Grealish will most likely spend next season on the sportwashers bench as I can't see any club taking him with the financial package required

I wouldn’t say definitely mate. They don’t need money, they need to be PSR compliant, they will sell players, I believe they have deals lined up for Digne and Martinez to leave.

People forget they raised close £100 mill already this season selling Duran and Philogene

That should have them close to compliance.
