Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Everyone is either too old, too young, not enough pedigree, or has a bad injury history, or is rubbish….apart from all these players in the latter stages of European competitions who shockingly end up at big clubs.

The only rumour that has had any sort of approval was Cherki who will probably end up being first choice number 10 for one of the best teams in the world.

We should judge players for what they do in blue rather than what has come before.

….might as well not have a transfer thread 😞

I agree to an extent but if we completely ignore previous form, we run the risk of signing more competition winners like Lindstrom, Harrison, Broja etc.

Whatever signing we make will carry risk.

Ndiaye was underwhelming on paper and now he’s probably our best player.

If we bought Cahill now people would be asking why he hasn’t played at a higher level yet, Jagielka was a rubbish defensive midfielder for Sheffield United who got relegated, Baines was nowhere near the level he eventually turned into for us, Coleman had no pedigree whatsoever.

We’ll have good and bad signings sure but at the moment it feels like every name linked is instantly derided unless they happen to be one of the best players in Europe.

The players some evertonians have turned their noses up at on here is ridiculous.

End of the day, it’s all just white noise.

While I agree with the sentiment, I don't think it's bad to be looking at players like Mitrovic and saying no thank you. He's been in Saudi for a few years now and is c.30. I don't mind 30 year olds coming in but his is not the type of profile we should be going for in that age bracket and I don't think we should be going for it in his position. Someone like Delap was the perfect profile for striker. It's definitely harder to obtain that than a Mitrovic but it should be the type we are going for at the start of the window.

At end of the day, we all care. That's why we're here discussing/lurking. If you struggle comprehending that rumours will be discussed in a thread which is literally dedicated to it then I don't what to say

It's June 2nd, agent-based rumors are abound and they're absurd. Mitrovic? Grealish? C'mon.

Just like in January, we'll know when the player signs. I wouldn't expect a lot of rumors for us to come to fruition.

We could be in a position where our only strikers are Beto and Chermiti. If Moyes wants to give Chermiti a loan we have one striker. We may need two or three additions in that position. Someone like a Mitrovic e.g experienced and available may make up a squad place but might not necessarily be a replacement for the star striker signing (which was clearly what Delap would have been).

The Delap signing is a good indicator though. He had one decent season at Ipswich in the prem and a CL club comes in for him. The squad size, five sub rule, and PSR calculations is making it harder and harder to get top players as the top clubs can hoover them up.

I'll advocate any signing me.

Mitrovic? Yes
Doak? Yes
Habib Diarra? Yes
Julio Gomez? Yes

Except Ross Barkley. I'll lose my composure if we brought him back.

It should be a check on expectations of our squad quality that 10 years ago we had prime versions of Stones Barkley Lukaku down our spine and finished bottom half whereas those players 10 years on would still probably start for us even though every one of them is considerably worse now.

I disagree about your Ndiaye underwhelming assessment as I rated him highly when he was at Sheffield United and wasn't put off by him having a bad season at Marseille. These are the types of players I'm happy to be linked with as they have points to prove and talent that needs fulfilling
