2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

This guy has moved around a lot in his short career and looked good in spells for all his clubs. They have all had a reason to want to move him on. We've seen loan players do well, Gomes springs to mind, then fall off a cliff once signed permanent. He won't get too cosy knowing he's not got 5 years guaranteed mega bucks. If he does well we will active the additional year. Maybe he wanted a high wage we went prepared to commit to for longer.

Hopefully, this is a sign of the club is looking after it's interests, rather than having what turns out to be average players on long, expensive contracts that we can't shift. Holgate anyone?

I'd be interested to know how/why this 2+1 contract scenario happened. Doesn't even make sense from a PSR point of view. Still, he's signed, that's the main thing and there's always contract extensions.
Only rationale I can think of is damage limitation that were bricking it about an injury crisis where he was forced to start 9 games and was subsequently crap.

Phew, that sounds far more palatable if true, but no way in my opinion would the club have proposed that deal, it gives very little protection of an asset after one year. That will be player and agent after a big move in 18 months time, with little or no fee to hinder it and an improved wage into the bargain.

Think it's Moyes not being 110% sure on the player, but who knows.

Really strange to see us pay a fee for a two year deal. Have to imagine we are extending him and this was a contract agreed six months ago and he arguably could have done better than what he agreed back then.

Reports from South America that Everton have an option for a 3rd year.

I suspect there was a dispute between his club and agent mate.

I’d say what happened here is his wage was baked into the deal 30/40k, which he could better elsewhere now.

So while the two clubs and player, probably agreed the obligation and option fee and wages - the length of the contract maybe wasn’t.

The two year deal strikes me as an agent, agreeing to the minimum wage first 5e miniumum amount of time - who, ekerping in the perimeters of the original deal.

Paddy Boyland has confirmed we’ve an option.

Spot on! Has to keep producing to keep his career going where as Holgate basically signed a contract and lost it.Also if you are a young signing who believes in their ability a contract like this is perfect as a stepping stone for their career if Everton do well you just sign a new contract. The onus is on the club and player to succeed
