Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Not sure where thats come from?

Ive seen a dozen reports saying £25-29mil.

For that price it's probably something to explore.
Yup, that is around the right ball park figure.

Would hopefully leave us something heading up to a £40M-50M profit on a Branthwaite sale.

Yup, the great man was also on the money when he referred to such players as "sunshine boys" - players who thrived when the team was playing well, but hid when real leadership and impact in adversity was required.

We have had loads of sunshine boys over the years.

Giles's description could be used as the acid test of any player. In the modern club game, all the top sides have loads of quality. However, you can sometimes only really judge an outstanding club player at international level where the quality is lower and the so-called star is required to lift more mediocre players now that he is not surrounded by a foreign legion of fellow stars.

It's one reason England have won nothing in 60 years despite having their fair share of Champions League and European Cup winners. Bottom line: too many were made to look better by foreign superstars. Take them away, and they weren't able to make Jermaine Defoe and Graham Rix world-beaters - or merely better players than they were at international level.
100%
I really hope we get the recruitment right this time and look at players stats in a different way, how did the team perform with and without them, did the goals they scored make a difference to the result, their performance levels in the harder games and in the tight situations.

1) jags 24, Cahill 24, lescott 23, baines 22.
They weren’t 28
2) at that time we didn’t have a lot of money, so had to take a few cheap gambles, we may have to this summer, but I expect us to have money to buy 3/4 starters . The gambles , squad fillers, should be loans or on young players with potential,
We’re we can make money or sell a few years later to
Break even. IE Alcaraz
Not wasting maybe 30mil in fee’s and wages on a 28tr old journeyman,
We wil be stuck with till he’s 32

Hamer would start for us in my opinion. People massively overrate our midfield. It’s not very good. Garner is an average player, Doucoure wasn’t very good. Iroegbunam is very young, Armstrong has potentially but is unproven. Alcaraz shows flashes. All of the wide options except Ndiaye are average.

If Hamer arrived tomorrow he’d start in this team no problem.

People get far too hung up on age. Gana is 35 and is getting a new deal. Hamer is 7 years younger than him. If he gave us 3 years service and got us back into Europe he’d then still only be 31.

Moyes is ultimately a better judge of a player than anyone on here and if he’s interested I’d back his judgement because it’s not often wrong with midfielders.

I’m all for NSNO but there needs to be a realignment of reality in this window. People saying they like the look of Cherki. He’s probably going to City. Everton are not going to drop money on some young attacking playmaker that fans have seen starring in European tournaments or top leagues. The CL clubs of Europe will sweep them up no doubt.

We need to make the next leg up to being a team that can qualify for any sort of Europe. It Moyes thinks Hamer helps bring the squad up to that level then I back him.

I'd like us to get hidden gems from lower leagues & abroad plus promoting the likes of Harrison Armstrong from the academy.
David Moyes dad was a great scout for us last time, I know he won't be able to this time round though due to his age.

Myko will be starting next season. He is under rated by our fanbase with short memories. We do need a starting RB and some competitiin at LB.
Yes he will, but he shouldn't.
He's a good defender but if we ever want to get out of the bottom half of the premier league then we need fullbacks that can contribute something towards goals/chances.

Lay of the land with Charly all but announced. What do we make of the teams around us? Anyone we want from the released players?
