An egotistical fool.

Yeah and almost none of them are valid in Delaps case where he has a release clause and is publically courting half the league.

Christ if we didn't properly take a run at him you'd be moaning about lack of ambition and being defeatist

Nonsense.

And the release clause makes no odds at all.

You say half the league - only one manager - Moyes has made public comment.

I agree with this in principle but it doesn't really align with the reality of where we are right now.

Unfortunately we are still likely to be perceived as even being on a level below Brighton, Bournemouth, or Brentford right now.

Signings like Delap will bring us back into that group and once we are there we can start making ambitious noises without it sounding a bit fantastical.

The bit you didn't bold is the significant bit - you don't need to reaffirm perception you want to move away from.

I wonder what Ruben Amorim, Eddie Howe or Enzo Maresca have publicly said about their pursuit of Liam Delap?

Anything?

I can only speculate why Moyes has gone so public, and repeatedly - it's against his MO. He very rarely does that - how many times has he spoke about a player he wants to sign? Fellaini/Baines was a last resort. I think Moyes has gone public because he fancies our chances, and if he signs, it'll reflect well on him to have convinced him to come to the black ball option.

Probably should close the thread at this post until there's confirmation either way
I didn't read the black ball option quite like you have. But that's fine. howe is thanking his lucky stars he had CL football still and so isak is catered for. I don't believe maresca knows the names of all of his squad, so adding new faces and names seems like a lesson in punishment. and amorim is offering to leave man utd with no contract pay off.
This is football saturation, every detail analysed like the xG equations. Maybe Moyes is talking a good game because a cut price Delap deal means a good few quid more for the RW we need? or to get the ball rolling on some early squad good news? If all the ooc leave, we've an iceberg motoring straight for us in about a weeks time. It could be bedlam, real big trouble, and not enough lifeboats to rescue all.

the thing with united is that if they do come good, they could be on the verge of titles very quickly given their stature and money

if he’s the striker that helps deliver that then he’s a legend forever

in all likelihood they keep imploding, hopefully.
They will continue to implode…. They need a complete rebuild of everything.

They will be away from the title and even European places for the next decade.

Delap and cunha would not change this.

Yeah, this sums it up.

I'll be able to stomach him going there more easily, and consider it a bullet dodged.
It's his career, but that would be mental for me headed there. Sign for us and he can put in a double the fee release clause then if he's that good will have better options than Newcastle, Chelsea or utd. Sign for one of those teams and he's probably stuck there with no guarantee they reach the top tier

I get what you're saying about reaffirming it but I think that perception is only going to change with performances on the pitch.

We can talk ourselves up as much as we like but the reality is we are currently a level below Brighton, Bournemouth, and Brentford and the possibility of using us as a stepping stone is likely seen as much more enticing prospect than committing to improving the club and dragging us up the league.

Younger players like Delap won't want to see us as the final destination and we aren't really in a position to state that they should be.

He's not Lukaku quality, who we all knew was using us as a stepping stone, but we aren't the same level of quality Everton we were when we signed Lukaku. We were alright with it then and I think we should be alright with it now. It's unfortunately just the current reality.
