2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

and there will be a good chunk of them who dont actually like playing football anymore

Yep. There'll be plenty who just aren't particularly fussed, it is just a job to them that they happen to be very skilled at, in relative terms.

You can't really blame them for maximising their money. I certainly have no sympathy for their choices but that's the reality.

If he’s not good enough to be challenging for a starting spot then there’s zero point in keeping him IMO, but I guess if Moyes keeps him he thinks he’s a decent back up option.

Was his wage that was the problem for me,along with Holgate never worth what he rinsed us for under Carlo.Give him a 1/2 year deal on half that and would be ok with me.The caveate being he will get games with injuries/suspensions so let's hope the Michael Keane of the last few games is here to stay...

I think for Keane it's a question of who plays along side him. If it's Holgate or even Tarkowski he looks very uncomfortable, play him with a Branthwaite, Mina or as it looks the last few games O'Brien he looks good.

You can’t make a contract retain decision on a player who has a couple of decent games but in the main has been a major liability for years . Makes no sense.

And yes we need a squad, what’s the point in filling it with the same issues, they will just repeat themselves

We're not making the same mistakes though. Jake has stepped up to the plate now so will be default cover for the starters and Keane moves down the bench.

I actually think Keane can do a job paired with O'Brien or Branthwaite as they are pacy defenders. It's him and Tarks where I think we do look dodgy and even then Tarky wasn't fit at the beginning of the season, so perhaps the outcome wouldn't have been so bad if he had been 100%.

Keane on a 1/2 year deal for 60k as a 2nd choice backup, is totally different to being on a 4/5 year 100k a week deal as a starter or 1st choice replacement. The question is will a promoted club give him a lot more seeing they can get him on a free. I reckon someone will take the punt so it will come down to whether he wants to stay.

We have Tarkowski getting older and coming off an injury, and teams hovering around Branthwaite. Our 4th choice CB should 1000% be a younger player who we hope to develop into the next Branthwaite. We need a player for the future, anything else is a waste of money.
