His hold up playing, runs into the channels and mastery of dark arts makes him a well rounded prospect. He’s 22 with a high ceiling. The obsession though comes from the release clause, it’s very difficult to find all those properties in a PL-tested striker at that age for that price guaranteed

I think he sees himself as number 9 for one of the top clubs, whether he's right or not we shall see.

He will certainly see himself with an opportunity to be paid like number 9 at one of the top clubs.

If he fails at a big club now, he will get contracts at other big clubs. If he fails at Everton, his chances of a big move after that would be minimal.

I think it's a reasonable approach from the club.

They offer something useful at a certain wage level.

If that can't be agreed on, fair enough. Onwards.

Not that it really matters as they've moved on but I reckon if they'd have stayed they would have played a lot of games and not just sat around as squad fillers. Time to freshen the squad not hang on to ordinary players.

You'd have to assume they're at least talking about offering him something even if they haven't formally done it, otherwise you'd think it would have been announced by now that he was going like the others. I know we moan about him but he's a long serving player and a bit of a cult figure for matchgoing fans at least, I can't imagine that they'd allow him to just skulk off without a bit of a fanfare if the decision was already made.
