I don't think he should be part of the squad next season. I assume if that's the case, he'll remain on in some coaching capacity.

As much as I admire and like him though, any role has to be merited. Someone getting a job on merit is one thing, finding a job for someone is another.

I think it's better ultimately in this scenario that he takes time out, and considers what he wants next.

If that's management/coaching, he will be able to find a job somewhere without difficulty, and make his own way.

All of us have things we love to do that become tougher with age. Playing in the Premier League takes everything you’ve got and walking away from your dream and your life as you’ve known it has to be tough. He’s not an old guy but old in football standards. Everyone can see his body won’t give the same anymore. And he knows it. His mind and his heart have to realise it together.

Today was a perfect day for him and he can go out on top. He’s one of the greats and legends. If he returns as a player, however, that image begins to get tarnished. As a guy who puts club and family first, I trust he’ll know it’s time.

I think his leadership and experience would be extremely valuable as a manager. Learn the other side of things. Motivate your club when you’re the old guy and do that long enough to where the guys you coach don’t relate to you as a player anymore since they never saw you play, but as a manager.

Glad he was able to captain one last time. Im pretty positive thats the last time we see him on the pitch, but hopefully around the club for a long time. He will never suffer those that dont put the club first and foremost.
