Sharpy’s return

In all honesty I have no idea what the animosity towards Sharpy was about anyway. He should be revered for what he was, not what he's perceived to have become. I think he was always overshadowed by Andy Gray - my favourite striker since Alex Young - but he was a key component of Howard's glorious team of the mid-eighties.

“I just think the way things happened … it’s a difficult one. To be treated the way we were, was awful,” he says. “People don’t know what went on but they were quick to make a judgement and could not be further from the truth. I just think the stick that I got was totally undeserved, and I thought – nah, I don’t need it.

“I have not been back, not that the football club has invited me back. Numerous people and my friends have invited me to go with them, and I still have season tickets, but I don’t see myself going back.

“To be fair, Sean Dyche, the manager, has been great. He has asked me on numerous occasions to go up to the training ground, all credit to him for that. You know what? I lost interest a bit. Whether that comes back, it remains to be seen. I doubt it.”

From The Mirror
“It’s still uncertain whether we will get the go-ahead to attend the next home game against Arsenal on February 4. No one could ever have envisaged things getting to this state where you are actually in physical danger."

I take issue with the thread title: why is it "Sharpy", as though he is a mate of us fans? He was a fine goalscorer but is no friend of the fans.

My take on the Sharp situation is he stopped wanting to come when he stopped being paid to come, nothing wrong with that, that’s his choice, understandable, what i don’t like is that he’s still pushing the narrative that he’s stayed away because of how the fans have forced him out. If he genuinely felt that way, why is he attending Everton legends nights filled with Evertonians left right and centre all over the city?

In fairness to him he didn’t do really do any fan events Until relatively recently, start of the season was his first since it all kicked off I recall . I assume it and the subsequent events was part of a PR strategy to ease his return .

What was the beef about Sharpy in the first place?
Well he riled up fans with his demeaning comments about fan led protests against Kenwright, and then continued to fuel the unsubstantiated allegation about assaulting DBB (with a headlock) despite the police receiving no such report and no evidence being produced. Then just general bellendary.
