Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Central midfielders that score more than most strikers ARE worth 85k a week imo. Fellaini was on 75k a week about fifteen years ago. I agree with you about the massively overhyped Sunderland midfield, though.

I think he’d be a good signing too. He isn’t even that old. He’s five years younger than our best central midfielder. He’s five years younger than Gary McAlister was when he signed for the RS and was a roaring success for them.

Just to refresh people’s memories, we paid 4.5 million for a young Alex Nyarko with ‘massive re-sale value’ when the RS were signing a 35 year old Gary McAlister.

Prize money and league placings > eventually making a 20 million profit from selling someone like Onana, who was a bit crap anyway. We absolutely mugged Villa off with that one!

Its like i was saying earlier mate its important not to be to dogmatic on age, profile and resale.

Take selling Idrissa to PSG, we did the "right" thing by signing the "right profile" Gbamin - turned out to be massively poor value - we subsequently spent another 100 + mill on midfielders only to have Idrissa still playing us.

The model and profile isn't the important piece, its the quality of the player and balance in squad building across the spectrum of investing in youth an experience.

You really need to work on your comprehension skills. He clearly says it's out of his hands. If anything had been offered it would be in his hands to either accept or try to negotiate. Clearly says he's waiting on the club and the interview is only a day or so old.English isn't his first language but he does speak it well.
Out of his hands can literally mean that the club have not offered him the terms he wants, even informally. That's clearly why he was banging on about reduced terms in his recent interview before TTV.

I mean, for me, the fact that there club haven’t told him see ya and are continuing to pick him is problematic enough.

Played every minute of every game on the championship. Not sure hes good enough either but certainly robust
You'd have to hope he is just a body to bring in. Hasn't he made loads of tackles and interceptions? Could just be to help out with the combative side of the game.

Would be concerned if brought in to play a lot though. Talented at that level for sure, but he’s not one I've ever looked at and thought he was a born PL player.

Disagree mate, the likes of Soucek and Coufal don't take you forward as a club they are just steady professionals who'll do a job to a point but you know they lack the ability to move you forward

I don’t want Coufal. Not because of his age, but because he’s crap!

Scoring 10 goals from central midfield is a bit more than ‘doing a job’ mate. It’s the likes of James Garner, who are in the bracket of ‘doing a job’ whilst taking us nowhere.

Very high chance David Moyes won’t be here in a year though. New manager might want to play a different style and we will have to loan him out and cover wages for a few years to try and cut loses.
We should absolutely not be signing players cos of David Moyes.
And style DOES matter. Why should we settle for results without style? Surely we should be aiming for results WITH style? If ever a club had a once-in-a-lifetime chance at a reset, it is us. We should demand better. Results? Unquestionably. With Style? Absolutely.

The school of science needs reopening.

Correct...People aren't will to just wait and see how it plays out.

They'd rather jump on a rumour, call Moyes fit to burn and personally accusing him of affronting them with such bad transfer rumours.

Blues have got no chill.
Or, we base it on the previous:

We have a history of making awful footballing and transfer decisions.

Moyes has a history of making bad signings post us and paying big fees for very average footballers.

That is not a combination to inspire faith and also gives you a fair indication of the MO of both.

My only hope is that TFG stand up to Moyes and invest in a lot of young international talent and sanction very few big money functional PL player type signings for them.

I agree with that. The squad needs a major rebuild, so rebuilding it to play pragmatic old school football just doesn't seem like a good, or appealing, plan to me. It's one thing trying not to rock the boat too much when you've got a settled squad and can't overhaul the whole thing but seeing as we've almost got no choice but to do that anyway, it would be very frustrating if we just continue along the same lines as we have before style wise.

The West Ham and Spurs Way....................................

I honestly think most people dont know what they mean by "Good football" to be honest, or it means something different to everybody.

Well I don't think spending decent money on 30 plus players is good strategic thinking plus Soucek will be more of the same workmanlike number 10 where I'd prefer a more dynamic and technically gifted player in that role.

Most of us would prefer that, Moyes on the other hand doesn’t. He likes a 10 that just feeds the ball out wide and then gets in the box on the end of it. See Fellaini, Cahill, Soucek etc. None of them could play a through ball.

Traditionally the Everton way too? Of course 'good football' is subjective and there will be differing views on how exactly the team should play, but I think it's fair to assume that having players with good technical attributes all over the pitch will be pretty much universally accepted as being a good thing.

You're right I fear. It's a limited way of playing the game. You'll get results against the rubbish teams with that philosophy but it'll not cut it against the better sides where sophistication is required. Unfortunately as you say this is Moyes way of playing and why it didn't work out for him at Man Utd
