2024/25 Beto

I think it's a bit of six of one, half a dozen of another, in this instance. All credit to Beto for hitting it hard, low and into the corner with a reactive shot.

That will be make it more difficult for goalkeepers, although the flip side is the distance and angle did make it somewhat saveable for Leno - he got to it.

If you watch it back closely, however, the ball hits the ground and bounces just as Leno is reaching it with his extended arms, which is what has done him.

In the end... if you don't shoot and hit the target, you'll never score.

Most neutral pundits seem to blame Leno
The bbc said Leno let Beto’s tame effort squirm under his palm

Happy for Beto. He strikes me as one of these types of players who will always give it his best, he may not be dead skilful, have a great touch, but what he does have is willingness to make runs, get involved, throw his head at something. If he would have scored 1/2 against Brentford then all of a sudden you’re going ‘he’s scored 10 in 28’.

Maybe it’s worth keeping him, having a pre season with him and seeing if he can be that striker that leads the line every single week.

Nuts that people are even thinking about selling Beto. Many more areas of the team are the priority.

Alongside Moyes coming in, Beto and Gueye have been the two who have dragged us to safety with their performances and goals. Their effort and work rate are immense.

Give Beto some half decent service and he will score goals, so you get some better players around him.

Exactly, I’ve been saying this for years about us. The amount of times Liverpool shoot and the ball rebounds to their player for a tap in, or it deflects and goes in. We pretty much had this twice yesterday with Myko and Beto. However if they never took them shots in the first place it doesn’t happen. Shoot, get it on target, hit it hard.

The point about better players, is the same for the striker position

Sound if there’s a blank cheque mate, all good. I don’t think we will have one sadly so, for me, the other areas of the team are priority.

We have a forward who can score goals with the right service, his effort and workrate have earned him a chance.

Off there is a black cheque then we get another, better striker and also keep Beto.

On Beto - "He's done great, he's improving. If he was a 19-year-old striker you'd say he's got a bit to go, he's not but he's certainly improving. Let's hope he can get goals in the remaining games."
Still think Moyes has this habit of giving back handed compliments to players. Not saying he should be like Martinez but Beto’s goals pretty much got us to plus 40 points and kept his reputation intact.

Very, very few keepers catch these days, with the punch or the parry being the primary option. As you said, if you put it on target, there'll be rebounds.

Think you need a bit more from
Your centre forward, a better all round game to get up the league and challenge the European positions. I think if we get a good offer the club will sell, but who knows. Moyes was never that good at buying strikers so maybe he sticks with him

I dont accept this point on all round play.

Dom is supposedly brilliant at his all round game yet he or the team could hardly score with him in it - what the point of good all round game if it doesn't lead to an outcome - is it even good if there isn't an outcome......

Also people are being dismissive of other aspects of Betos game - not sure what game people are watching half the time- he gives defenders a torrid time - The Derbies and Palace a case in point, thats a massive influence on the game and our attacking dimension.

Moyes said: “He's a great boy, I've got to say. He practises like you can't believe to try and get better, which when you've got that, you know then you've got something - he's trying to get better.

“He's incredibly humble. He is very honest with himself, which gives a manager a great chance to try to improve you.

"So I have to say he's doing great. He's got eight Premier League goals.

“I sort of said to him a couple of weeks ago, I said, ‘look, you might try and get 10’.

“If you think that he has not really played that much, he's only really come on the scene in January, so if he could get another two between now and the end of the season, it would have been a great run of goals for him in the second half of the season.”

Good lad. Tries hard. But just not good enough. "Trying" to get better.

Is all I read from that.
