Sparked by discussion in the Pickford thread. Tim Howard was a long serving Everton player, but doesn't seem to be regarded well.

Proud owner of 100 clesn sheets for Everton, stalwart of some of our better recent(ish) league performances, and hero of a semi-final penalty shoot out? Or flappy starfish jumping error waiting to happen?

Please discuss.
He was alright, mate...

But he was prone to a few howlers in his time with us. And when I say 'howlers':
Howard Miss.webp

A superman punch with his eyes closed, and he completely missed the ball by, what looks like a good meter there?!

Solid goalkeeper, big Evertonian, loyal, made some great saves and did a good job. Maybe it could be argued he wasn't quite as consistent as Pickford has become and he had some moments, but he had some great ones too.

For me he's one of those performers who gave his all and would have him in the same category as the likes of Osman, Yobo and Hibbert. Who were good stalwarts for the club. While not quite reaching the levels of icons like Cahill, Jagielka, Arteta.

Probably his better moments were for USA such as the game against Belgium where he made what might of been a record number of saves.

I remember the world cup game, record saves that most lower championship keepers would have made, just TV hype at its best.

In a roundabout way he won the Prem for Leicester. We were giving them a routine beating at Goodison when they looked odds on for the drop until he gifted them a couple of goals. As they say the rest is history.

I thought he was decent enough for most of his time here. He was definitely more clanger prone towards the end of his time. He certainly couldn't match up to Pickford or Martyn in modern times but that bar is very high indeed.

We've had genuine world class keepers and some awful duds and he doesn't fall into either camp but I think he can reflect on a pretty decent time overall over a long spell.

He seems a hard guy to dislike which isn't relevant to a discussion of his contribution here but I do like listening to him speak with such enthusiasm and good memories of the club.

Solid enough keeper, nowhere near Pickford, Martyn or Southall but that’s no slight on Tim as not many keepers are as good as those 3. Absolute shambles his last couple of seasons and seemingly lost the power of sight the second someone took a shot from over 20 yards out. Not great at crosses either.
Not replaced soon enough and allowed to deteriorate in front of us, just like Cahill, Neville, Coleman and a few others down the years.
