Goodbye to Goodison

The club has largely been running on fumes for decades. The one time we were flush, the lunatics practically poured fuel all over it and set it alight. Blowing a fortune on garbage players and general scattergun economic decision-making, almost burning the whole house down in the process. How we've survived the past few seasons still in the top flight is a mystery to most...... but suffice to say that many of the accumulated rag tag bunch of mediocrity masquerading as an Everton football team are not worthy of the name.

I know a lot of people are desperate for the simple reboot that the new stadium represents.... but a major cultural change will be far more important than any change of address. By a large margin! Hopefully that is what happens.

THE GRAND OLD LADY

On 24th August 1892,
A little piece of Walton became forever blue.
To build this great new stadium, cost just three thousand pound,
But the years to come were priceless, upon this hallowed ground.
The home of the school of science, first began to teach,
To fans on terraces and stands, designed by Archibald Leitch.
This famous grand old stadium, the best of its day,
First dugouts, floodlights, goal nets, always leading the way.
The stories she could tell, the things that she has seen,
The 60 goal season, William Ralph ‘Dixie’ Dean.
She saw giants of the 60’s, Kendall, Harvey, Ball,
Hickson, Labone and Temple, too many to name them all.
The World Cup came to town in 1966,
Pele and Eusebio gracing her with their tricks.
When She reached the 70s, what magic it did bring,
Bob Latchford walks on water and Andy is our King.
Along came the 80s, she really came alive,
Cups and leagues and that magic night in April 85.
What a team she saw, oh how they could play,
Sharpy, Sheedy, Southall, Reid’s cross, Gray,
Bracewell, Steven, Stevens, the magic of it, wow !
Mountfield, Heath and a title lift, courtesy of that goal from Van Den Hauwe.
The bleak years of the 90s, just one bright spot 95,
She flirted with relegation but she made sure we survived.
She’s witnessed lots of heartache, frustration, stress and tears,
But the fans have kept on visiting her, throughout the barren years.
And through the recent past, she’s not always seen the best,
More relegation battles, she now deserves a rest.
The memories she’s provided, the happy and the sad,
To mums and sons and siblings, daughters, grandparents and dads.
We’ll keep her in our thoughts as her time comes to an end.
And thank her for her service, our ever faithful friend.
The time’s come to transition to the docks of Bramley Moore,
We’ll make lots of new memories like the ones we made before.
So as we say goodbye and prepare ourselves to part,
That little piece of Walton, will always have our heart.
Don’t know who wrote this it has been forwarded a few times and my daughter forwarded me.
