2024/25 Jack Harrison

Id take him on loan for another season if thats an option, or for a low fee and fairly low wages. Not because he is amazing in any way, but we have such a thin squad left this summer, and we need some consistancy and this could be a fairly cheap way of achieving that. All depends on how much money we have available and can use ofc, if we have loads, go and buy better.
Yeah, I think this will be how they look at it.

I pray that Moyes isn't going down the route of keeping and playing 'favourites' just because they train and work hard and follow his mantra. That is no way to secure success. He needs to dig out his copy of SAF's autobiography to see how it should be done. Old Whiskey Nose took no prisoners and had major run ins with some of the biggest names in his squad but he got respect and the players pulled together on the pitch and 'managed' themselves. We haven't had players capable of doing that since...well, probably, Big Joe's dogs days.

We need to bring 'winners' into the squad and/or encourage a winning mentality instead of having a team of sycophants pussying up to the 'gaffer' but that's ultimately down to Moyes. There is a time to be nice but there is also a time to be ruthless and cutting ties with players like Harrison is now that time.

…never get this ‘favourites’ angle with team selection.

Managers select players because they most effectively fit into the team from the players he has available. The fact that players like Harrison and Doucoure play is not because they’re ‘favourites’, it’s because the squad lacks quality and balance.

I don’t get the consistency bit, he shouldn’t be anywhere near our starting 11 next season, and I guess he won’t be, so he’s a very expensive sub and there’s a big world out there if our recruitment team can’t find a similar player to Harrison in terms of what he offers, which isnt much for 1/4 of the cost and wage, then they should be sacked

But if that's true why are we hearing that Moyes is preparing to offer both Harrison and Doucoure new contracts. I really hope this is not true.

well we see on Saturday. If he picks them both again then you could easily argue favouritism. Or it could be Moyes being his negative usual self and being ultra cautious. Which won’t help much going forward

Moyes will be gone the following summer if that’s the case, the fans will turn very quickly at the new ground if we’re watching the same dross that dyche served up, but costing us a lot more to do so. He did say elite players in an elite stadium, so let’s wait and see.

….because there’s been zero continuity planning. Too many contracts have been allowed to run out at the same time, fortunately we’ve managed to stay up otherwise we’d have been in serious trouble.

We’ll need numbers next season, it’d be so difficult and too costly replacing them all. He’ll have a foundation of players he knows are at least effective at this level, he can then attempt to spend monies on the quality he keeps mentioning. Building from the top down by acquiring better than he has.

No, it's because they "try hard", which is way overrated by limited managers. All players should try hard, if they have very little ability they should be nowhere near our team, and should be traded for players who try hard and have ability. I can definitely see us keeping Doucoure, and we have so many players out of contract I wouldn't be against keeping him as a squad player, but we'd have to pay for Harrison and he is way worse in his position so for goodness sake let's not pay money for him.

Harry will be a permanent fixture flying down the wing at BMD for years to come. Make it happen Davy
Up the offer to £30m as we tradionally waste £30m on crap

…obviously, Harrison is the epitome of ‘lack of quality’ Moyes talks about but he’ll need squad players that can shore up the team with injuries, suspensions and game management.

I hope we’ve seen the last of Harrison but if the reports are true about renewals then I expect he’ll still want and need players of this type through the rebuilding process.

@Eggs I do understand the point about lacking quality in depth but potentially - and it is only hearsay - offering Harrison a full term contract of, say, three years does little for forward planning. If Moyes so desires then sure keep him on loan for another twelve months and see how he progresses/improves in that time but only on those terms. By then, Moyes will know a lot more about him and whether he is justified getting something more permanent. The same goes for Doucs given his age, nothing more than a further twelve months at best.

Harrison not a renewal though as he isn't our player.
