Got myself a fair bit out of shape the last few years.

Had to unexpectedly run a few months back and resembled Homer here;

.... so figured better get a grip of my cardio.

Would recommend the NHS's couch to 5k app. It's a structured way to ease back into running;

I can now run for ages.

Well, good few minutes.

Do you get a biscuit at the end ?

You pick a 'trainer' at the start to talk you through it all - basically to tell you when to walk and run and to give pep talks.

I picked Steve Cram because he was the first person. I saw Sarah Millican and I think listening to her tell me to run would be up there on my idea of what hell would look like.

Anyway, Steve does say to reward yourself. I took that as with a decent biscuit.

Fair play mate, the amount of people you talk to who are marathon junkies now, often say they started out running doing couch to 5k. Running is so popular now.

Think there is something in starting running latter in life. I always loved running as a great stress reliever more then anything- as in just hitting the road and doing a few K daily since my early teens - its caught up with my joints though, but those who started later it seems to have been kinder to their joints and can do Marathons at 60.

In summary post pictures if you turn into one of the illumines Lyrca wearing weirdos flying of to Berlin to try beat your PB.

I was going to post it in the mental health thread for that reason, a stress reliever.

But yeah, the app is really accessible, and I use it as a break from the day job. Monday,Wednesday,Fridays - 30 min sessions on a treadmill that's split between running and walking.

I think a lot of us are guilty of sleepwalking into heart disease.

That's why i run mate stress reliever, busy job, life gets busy, natural adrenaline pumping, need something after to come down and burn off the excess stress of the day, always try and get some time in after work - even a small one. Like you these days its often on a thread mill, as its kinder on the joints.

If i miss a couple of weeks i start to notice i get more ratty and stressed and tired overall, keeping a base fitness (noting crazy) is actually great for energy day to day.

Unrelated - but in our last three relegation battles, i used to bring my weights down and do a work out and watch us on TV, the amount of nervous energy and stress i burnt through watching us trying to get out of trouble, Rocky training to take on Apollo Creed had nothing on me.

Hmmm, no sure about that Homer clip, as my avatar shows Homer is a running machine 🙂
