19 players in the PL had more than 10 goals last season.

Richarlison had 10, and 3 were pens.

Maupay had 8, with 1 pen, so he had as many goals from open play as Richarlison.

Maupay is not the footballer that Richarlison is, but he's a reasonable approximate of Richy's game - play facing the goal, run at defenders, very good pressing, a bit of snide.

An 8 to 10 goal scorer is a very valuable player and once you get past the Big Six/petrodollar sides, with whom we can't reasonably compete for talent, you can count the players with more than that on your fingers.

At some point we have to play to his strengths or he's wasted.

Has he made the French squad ?
Goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola (West Ham), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Steve Mandanda (Rennes).

Defenders: Lucas Hernardez (Bayern Munich), Theo Hernandez (AC Milan), Presnel Kimpembe (Paris Saint-Germain), Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool), Jules Kounde (Barcelona), Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich), William Saliba (Arsenal), Dayot Upamencano (Bayern Munich), Raphael Varane (Manchester United).

Midfielders: Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid), Youssouf Fofana (Monaco), Matteo Guendouzi (Marseille), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus), Aurelien Tchouameni (Real Madrid), Jordan Veretout (Marseille).

Forwards: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich), Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona), Olivier Giroud (AC Milan), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain), Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig).

No mate, he did not.

Jesus wept. Imagine thinking Maupay was getting in the French squad when those are their forward options. More chance of Noel Edmunds getting a call up for them than Neal Maupay.

Alvarez has De bruyne, Gundogan, Foden, Grealish and co giving him service. If you put him in our squad he would just be another player.
I very much doubt he'd be as bad Maupay.

Calvert-Lewin is no world-beater, but he still looks like Batistuta compared to his able deputy.

…Richarlison has decent back to goal technique, it meant he could effectively play the lone central striker role & occupy CBs - Maupay can’t. Play the ball into Richarlison and it sticks or he’s capable of linking play - play it into Maupay and it invariably comes straight back. Richarlison also has ability to score goals playing from wide areas - Maupay doesn’t. Richarlison is a real aerial threat - Maupay isn’t.

i don’t think Maupay is an ‘approximate’ type to Richarlison. Richarlison scores different types of goals and contributes in other areas, Maupay doesn’t. He’s a square peg in a round hole at Everton, he already looks a very poor acquisition.
