They get a full private education garrenteed even if the kid doesn't make it at city. Plus other sweeteners if there is real competition for the player We havnt competed at youth level since we got a ban years a go.

In effect they’ve created a factory production line of young players, which as you say is disgusting, but that’s the way it is now - hence why the likes of Blackburn, Bolton, Preston etc snap them up when they let go of them at 16/18.

I know it’s the way it is but the thought of following the model set out by two disgusting institutions like City and Chelsea makes me want to quit it all.

As i say i think wed really struggle with doing a model like that day to day here culturally as a fan base. But the pay off are signing the types of players say City and Chelsea do for their first team.

Its an excellent point mate, its like the RS selling players - you say to yourself how the F did they get that fee for them. Its because the baseline standard is very high and the perception is just below that is still very very good. Same...

Plus, producing a surplus youngsters that are saleable for proper money too, a la the Chelsea model, which in turn helps pay for senior players.

Its the rise of what i think of as "Portfolio clubs" mate - players aren't players, they are are viewed as investments, they aren't bought for their ability to play for you for the next 5 years, they are bought to be put out on loan like battery...
