Only rationale I can think of is damage limitation that were bricking it about an injury crisis where he was forced to start 9 games and was subsequently crap.
Players like security and guaranteed money. So say he’s on £50k a week, you really think he’d leave £5m on the table if Everton had offered an 4-year deal instead of this 2-year deal?! Only the elite clubs outside of England pay Premier League...
Weird that everyone’s assuming the 2 year deal is something the club has instigated rather than the player. He’s 22 and we’re his 5th club, maybe he and his agent want him to keep moving.
There's quite clearly no bites given he sacked his agent and came crawling back to us. He and his team gambled on having a good season and massive offers coming in. Not only did he have a bad season, but all his injury problems have now reappeared.
It's mad to me how many people are really arguing that it makes sense to keep him for cover, and that we'll miss having him once he moves on. The same arguments were made by people who wanted to keep Tom Davies, and not once since he left have I...
Interesting stats. They confirm what I've always known: our modern "heroes" are third rate in the pantheon of Everton greats.
The only thing I will say, however, is that one of the above actually won a medal while with us. That always helps.
