Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Got a message from my brother in law saying he wasn't able to book my hotel. No reason given. Pretty pee'd off with him tbh but I'll just park that.

It's actually costing me nearly a £100 more to make the same booking than it did 2 weeks ago, and it will be a twin room so I'm stuck with a single bed and I never sleep comfy in those. Plus the bank authorisation didn't work again so I had to phone the booking through which entailed an additional booking fee plus whatever extravagant amount the call costed. They were charging me 25 p a minute and it was 5 minutes before I spoke to somebody. Plus Sky charge me at least a similar amount. Not a tremendously happy bunny but at least the hotel is booked now. Not sure what the solution is to the bank problem. I've already spoken to them twice about it.

Last night was one of my few nights out for the month ? I have a group of friends that I play Bunco (dice game) with every month. We each host a night at our own home and enjoy food and beverages while we play. It's a fun time!

I just started playing it this year. I went to look up the history and it started in 19th century England and was imported to the US in 1855.

The funny thing about Vegas is the celebrity sightings or near misses/ 1or 2 degrees of separations that are pretty common since so many live here lol So at Bunco last night, I met a woman who was filling in for another player. She is an Accountant/personal assistant that works for one of the top poker players in the world.

And my regular almost celebrity encounter is my horse's farrier that used to work for Wayne Newton. He used to train and show Wayne's horses. It is definitely interesting living here. lol

Sorry VTG but who's Wayne Newton. I've heard of Wayne Clarke and Henry Newton - the amalgamation must be a cracking player.

He's a Las Vegas showman (singer) and bit time actor. Very popular in those parts and has been doing Vegas shows going back to the Elvis era. I always thought you knew your music stuff Jazz. lol

No I admit I had to google him too mate. Sorry V. Never assume us ignorant Brits know diddly squat about what goes on on your side of the pond.lol

No , sorry mate . As you say who keeps the original boxes ? well I do for my hifi gear but slightly different .

Just thought that maybe the supermarket would have tons hanging around from their packaging, and as I know a few lads and lasses there, might ask them tomorrow. Doesnt need to be one big box, just enough to tape together to cover the bubble wrap.

Anyone got any idea where I could buy enough cardboard to package a fridge up?

The advice from the courier website was to try to use the original packaging ffs. Who keeps that?
Try a removal firm Mark. they must have loads of cardboard boxes that aren't re-usable. I'm sure they'd be happy to have someone take some off their hands if they're prepared to collect it. A phone call can't hurt. Failing that try and think of a retail or business that will receive items in cardboard packaging that they need to then discard. There must be loads of them about. May get some other wrapping materials too.

Thats a great idea. Thanks Fred. Will see if there are any white goods retailers nearby as well. They will deffo have ex fridge boxes somewhere.

Tenuous connection i know but ...... LC's daughter was of course married to Dom look alike Phil .

She was the receptionist at Radio West on Shoestring!

Used to love Eddie Shoestring , brilliant fictional character brilliantly played by Trevor Eve.
I used to love Eddie Shoestring also, he was a cool character brilliantly portrayed by Trevor Eve who was also great as Hughie Green in a more recent television play.

I've just arrived back up in Scotland, not a bad drive up despite the roads being busy.

Try your local supermarket mate, I know from personal experience they throw out some amount of cardboard boxes but are happy to put some aside for a customer in need.

@jazzy

Been to Jessica’s (grandkid no 3) birthday party. It had a glow in the dark theme and was in a soft play activity world, very different from the paste sandwiches and jelly in waxed paper dishes of my childhood. Judging by the volume of shouts and screams the children all enjoyed themselves, as for me my ears are still ringing lol

I love this six degrees of separation stuff. Here's a very topical one from me. My Mum's oldest sister moved to Kirkby when she got married. One of her mates was Angela Kelly's mother. (Angela Kelly being The Queen's dresser)

Your dice game sounds fun.
