ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Still no widespread reporting of the large numbers of rs fans who were left stuck outside the ground at kick off - not quite the same scale, but very similar to what happened at the Paris CL final last season? Why aren’t the pinkies threatening to sue everton and the pl for what happened?

We must ask ourselves What happened to create this issue, yet again with Liverpool fans, at a stadium that has had no significant issues with away fans gaining access to the ground across multiple fixtures in league and cup matches for umpteen seasons?

Was it Algerian/Somalian French local youths causing chaos and trying to force entry into L4 4EL as they did in the French capital - always a distinct possibility I suppose, they do get everywhere these lads, maybe even a quick day trip to Merseyside just to cause trouble for the pinkies isn’t beyond them?

Was it a poor ticketing system at Goodison, which failed to operate correctly (even though it has worked fine without any issues for numerous previous matches, just the same as the system at the parc des princes?).

Another strong possibility it would seem, and obviously systems can crash or fail at any time, although myself and the rest of the home supporters managed to get inside Goodison without any issue in plenty of time for kick off, just as the Real Madrid fans did in Paris!!? Confused - I am.

I mean, it couldn’t possibly be that massive amounts of fake tickets & ticket holders were present and numerous blaggers managed to gain entry using a fake ticket, resulting in genuine ticket holders not being allowed access and Everton having to close the turnstiles to physically inspect every ticket to prevent yet another catastrophe inside a football stadium?

That couldn’t have happened could it, just the same as it didn’t happen in Paris, to the same set of fans who were innocent victims there?!?

I mean, I just don’t understand why I have not seen any demands from the spirit of satan, the club or the two MPs who so vociferously fight on the clubs behalf, for a full investigation and apology as they did in Paris - it can’t have been the lfc fans fault, it just can’t have……

I see they are in Naples tomorrow. I spent a few days there earlier this year. Naples has some interesting locals that you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of

Van Dijk tried to do Onana because Onana was causing them problems and he was frustrated. It's not the first time Van Dijk has done this, Richarlison tackle in the Derby, he's always has been a dirty player. When he does decide to get near a player to tackle it's always with the studs and sideways. That was a potential leg breaker. Compare Van Dijk's tackle with Allan's against Newcastle, which VAR intervened and asked Pawson to look at it, and see which one had the potential to seriously injure a player. Allan's tackle wasn't rescinded which means they agreed it was a red.

If Juventus fans seen the flag from Saturday, they might travel to welcome them.
I see some rs fans don't fancy visiting a country where they've previously enjoyed wrecking and pilfering to their hearts content.
I mean karma can be strange.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I've now seen the ref on the pitch, the VAR ref, Peter Walton and Dermot Gallagher all see it as a yellow, and the latter 2 give pretty much the same explanation as to why it's a yellow. Those tackles always look worse in slow motion or in freeze frames, but he essentially stamped on Onana's foot, which is literally never given as a red, it's just the initial drag down the shin that made it look bad, in my opinion.
That’s a bizarre take on it!
He might have ended up treading on his foot, but the initial contact was VD’s boot crashing into Onana’s shin pad! Thank goodness the shin pad did it’s job properly otherwise it would almost certainly have broken his leg!
VD’s boot then slipped down O’s shin onto his foot!
It really wasn’t a stamp onto O’s foot, that’s another action altogether!

It wasn't a challenge at all, he was trying to kick the ball, but came in far too late, hence his foot landing on Onana's shin. I'm not saying it wasn't a mistimed "challenge" if you can call it that, and obviously a lot of people seem to think he should be sent off (although they all seem to be Everton fans. I haven't heard any non-Everton fans saying it was a red card). If you go in with force into a player's shin, or higher, there is a fair chance you'll damage them, hence Sue Smith's "leg breaker" comment. However, there wasn't much force in the initial challenge, the main element of the foul was when he then stood on Onana's foot, which is what the booking was for.

The Trippier challenge was much worse and a clear red. It was a scissor tackle with force, and could easily have caused a serious injury.

It was clumsy, and there couldn't have been huge complaints if he'd been sent off, but I'm not sure it now gives players carte blanche to stamp on people's legs.

As a spurs fan i can tell you that i 100% think it should have been a red card and fell about laughing at the time at the ridiculous "explanations" from the brains trust at BT sport as to why there was no point in VAR even getting involved for a second look.

It was no different to the Ryan Shawcross on Aaron Ramsey tackle all those years ago and Onana is a very lucky boy to have not ended up in the same situation as AR. All 6 studs are over the top of the ball at a 45 degree angle when it lands on Onana's shin when he has a planted foot. That has always been a red card offence, no ifs, buts, maybe's or orange cards. Its a red.

For what its worth as a "neutral" (although i hate the RS as much as you guys so maybe not so neutral) i dont think the intention was there to "do him" but the challenge was so clumsy and absolutely crossed the threshold of endangering an opponent that how any one can sit there with a straight face and say that it wasnt even worth a second look is surely on a wind up.

Fair enough, it appears I'm in the minority.

Mr Truss - Anfield season ticket holder apparently.
