Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Wow you guys have been busy while I've been away from the forum.

Had a big table tennis tournament yesterday and spent the Saturday training for it.

Long story short played well but didn't win it. ( very Everton !)

Won all 5 matches in my group stage but then had to wait 3 hours to play a quarter final. Played OK and squeezed through but tiredness was starting to set in along with seizing up.

I was absoloutely battered by a guy almost 40 years younger than me in the semi final but all in all quite pleased I got so far . Perhaps if I'd had an @Armaghtoffee sized portion of fish and chips instead of my healthy salad I might have done better . Almost certainly I could have done with the pint of Guiness!

So , at least we didn't lose at the weekend . Big week for the club and Kopite Kev in bringing in reinfocrements and trying to shift a few to balance the books, don't envy him.

Good to see the beat goes on .......................

@roydo I'm sure your lad will have an incredible experience in NZ - just ask @fandjango for some tips !

@Barnfred 55 been there with all the paperwork for the cruise - I'm sure you will find it worth it and have a great time.

@anjelikaferrett well done to you and Mr F for your winnings . Are you both planning to retire to a tax haven like Seahouses now ?

@Sassy Colombian - lovely photos and continue to ignore the nutcases on here - well not on this thread but you know what I mean - I wasn't talking about any of you guys honestly !

I've met a few.
In the dim and distant past when I was a kid, our local MP was a Conservative. Tim Fortescue. Liverpool Garston constituency. Our next door neighbour was also a Conservative Councillor on Liverpool City Council. They do indeed exist. My Dad is one! My Mum preferred David Alton (lovely man. Good Catholic was her voting rationale)

Well done. Getting to the semi final is brilliant.

That I grew up and live in the same small place maybe accentuates my thinking on this. We all know each other and while some might not like that I love it.

Here’s hoping a local girl catches their eye ?
I live in the same area that my Mum’s family have lived in for the past hundred and fifty years. My Dad’s family, on the other hand, moved far and wide. Dad’s father and grandfather were both in the army. They never put down roots. Two of my Dad’s sisters emigrated to Canada and my Dad would have emigrated too, he even went as far as getting the documents. My Mum said if he went he went without her so we stayed. I was relieved as I didn’t want to go either. I was about ten at the time.

Good evening everyone. Hope your day has been good. I've enjoyed the last few pages. I'm firmly in the mushy peas camp. Love them. Coleslaw and salad have their place ( or should that be plaice?) but with anything from the chippy it has to be mushy peas...and curry sauce. Is that too weird?
@RoydoIm so glad you are happy for your son. I'm sure you will miss him but as you say the best thing you can do for your children is support their independence. My son moved to Nottingham in December and I miss not having him around but he's loving life and is settled so I'm happy for him.
We're currently watching, for about the 10 millionth time The Magnificent Seven. Mr F loves westerns and I have to admit to liking this one very much.

Have a good night all.
Flicking through the channels during the break in the Hundred cricket Mr G. came across The Magnificent Seven, he was a bit disappointed to have missed it, told him it wouldn’t matter if he joined it halfway- he must know it word for word by now. lol

Morning all on this cool and cloudy Bank Holiday morning. Woken at two this morning by a taxi outside our house, why do they leave their engines running for so long? Dropping off to sleep was woken again by the milkman, gave up and listened to a podcast Assume Nothing about mother and baby homes in Ireland, such a sad story. There was a happy outcome to the story that was being told so it wasn’t completely grim.
@jazzy Well done on getting to the semi final, hope the after effects of your exertions aren’t too bad today.
Have a lovely day all.?

The idea of moving from friends and school at 10 chills me. I have always been a real home bird though, very content in my own space.

thanks Gwladys a bit sore but I'll get over it
Mostly Employment law at the minute, particularly Tribunal cases.
I just about remember my one and only Employment tribunal hearing. As a very wet behind the ears lawyer I was sent to do this case. My principal said "it's only a preliminary issue to prove that the employer has the requisite number of employees to mount a claim against . Prelim issue dealt with .
Chairman . "Yes issue proven please proceed "
Me "Errr can I have an adjournment ?"
Chairman " No!"

3 hours later and unsurprisingly my poor client lost.
Well done. Getting to the semi final is brilliant.
Thanks anj

Mrs J's dad always used to frequent the Conservative Club in Huyton ( yes I know that sounds very strange ) and steadfastly refused to darken the door of the Labour club but his politics were more left wing than Arthur Scargill!
