We have, and I never suggested we hadn't. The ratio is still way off though, in the last 3 seasons we've signed 13 first team players on permanent deals and only 4 of them have been under 25. If this is the next deal we do then it's 4 out of 14. As I said quite clearly, I'm not complaining about this deal and I understand the reasoning, my issue is with people saying 'who cares about resale values' and then at the same time crying about us not being able to spend and calling all the DoFs and managers every name under the sun.
Again, there's nothing wrong with adding a few experienced heads here and there for cheap, it's fine. We have to be careful though because it's a dangerous game if you get the balance wrong. Next year we have Coleman, Mina, Allan, Townsend, Rondon and Begovic all out of contract and probably leaving. Davies and Doucoure are too, although they may be more likely to stay, while Vinagre's loan will be up. So we're likely to be trying to replace 7-9 players who have left without us receiving a penny for them. That's not easy to do, and it's why the bolded bit is just a basic misunderstanding of the importance of resale value. It's not about planning to sell people, it's about having assets which retain their value. We need to have a player trading model where we sell assets to raise money to buy better assets. That's how we can improve. If we have no assets to sell, we can't improve.
