My grandad (who indoctrinated me as an Evertonian) didn’t like Cottee when he was at West Ham, and thought he was a bad signing.

I on the other hand just knew we’d signed someone for a record fee and therefore loved him. So my grandad said any time he scored a goal he’d give me £1, and £5 if he ever scored a hattrick.

Debut hattrick against Newcastle and I was a very rich 6 year old!

Good story mate...although i always felt Cottee had plenty of fans, probably polarised opinions a lot, but he definitely had a sizable fan club.

Heath, to me, was never appreciated enough. I even recall he had an interview with Shoot (or Match) saying how little our fans appreciated him and always made him a scapegoat when things didn't go well (and this was during/after our successful period).
