Yes that's fair. Theyve done a pretty good job with replacing them though, Jota and Dias look good like for like replacements. Elliot is talented as a younger player.

Klopp is a big plus for them. I still think at some point he may jib it. If they have a poor season next season or whatever.

Hes done a great job, but they have a top 5, and sometimes top 3 wage bill in world football. Hes won 1 league in 7 years. So the counter is, hes not actually that good at winning leagues.

That feels about right. If Chelsea spend big, and City bring in more, that will drift further.

Jota is a great acquisition for them and Dias could go on to the levels of Mane and Salah, but there's no guarantee of that yet. Admittedly, it's been good business.

So for me, the talk of their side soon dissipating because a few players are of a certain age doesn't wash. A large swathe of their squad are still fine.

What do I sense however is some disharmony: Mane may be off; Salah's contract is still lingering on and on. Those two alone are pivotal to their success.

If they both move on and the ol' gegenpress takes its toll on their bodies, they may see a bit of a decline in as you'll have to ask, 'Why haven't they bought in?'

Edwards leaving is huge too as he was a key part in their transfer strategy.

If we want comparisons, Arsenal playing a CL final at the same stadium against Spanish opposition in 2006 is the place to look. You can also bear in mind that Paris went through some of the worst riots for decades in that part of town barely six months earlier.

I don't remember Arsenal having any problems whatsoever that night.

Separately, I am glad that the French Interior Minister described the behaviour of "some English clubs", therefore not tarring us all with the same brush.

Yes we dont know the impact of Edward's going.

We also dont know the impact of Salah, in his final 12 months if he doesnt sign a deal.

If they are in contention, I'm sure hes full pelt, but it would be reasonable to assume that if they are a bit off, his levels probably drop a bit, or continue to drop.

As a slight aside, read today that Mane is going to get a 3 year deal at Bayern on 250k per week. I'm surprised Liverpool dont want to get near that. Youd imagine if it were close he would stay. Say 200k pw for 3 years. Interesting they wont be doing that. His goals have been critical the 2nd half of this season.

Liverpool are beatable, they can't press for 90 minutes and can't really do it for 45. If you've got an organised defence with 2 banks of 4 and don't drop too deep into your own penalty box then you can nullify their threat. Liverpool don't have a Modric or De Bruyne type player who can unlock a stubborn defence.

Problem is that playing from the back is the fashion these days and teams seem to just roll over for a tummy tickle

They really cannot accept a loss can they. Not a single one of them was prepared for the eventuality that they might lose that final. Staggering arrogance. If they hit any form of a downturn in the next few seasons I don’t know how that lot are going to cope.

2-0 Liverpool said slippy and Owen, and even Rio was on board. I switched off at the final whistle, didn’t hang around to hear the backpedaling of the ‘experts’ explaining how they got it so wrong.

I’ve considered the goings on in Paris from all angles and reached the conclusion that the only way these mutants are going to get put back in their box is a few seasons of mid table finishes for the RS, and poor cup runs. Unlikely I know, but we live in hope.

Just on Five Live......Deputy Mayor of Paris telling he was amongst the RS fans waiting to go into the game. He apologies for the pukka fans who were manhandled and sprayed, but states he saw forged tickets, fans with no tickets and general trouble makers that were responsible for the chaos.

Well, to this observer, thats exactly what did happen. Gassed, missed the match, with real tickets, directly because of the behaviour of other fans.
