Zinchenko walks in and is our best centre mid, get him signed up immediately. For about £20m that’s a bargain. Imagine if we somehow got him and Gallagher…We’d actually resemble a football team.
Probably be a cleverly type who will be immediately exposed when surrounded by lesser players

We had a few good matches with Delph as the deep player in that system. Find a real deep midfielder and we're closer

Yes that's probably fair. We looked good with him in the team with the 5 at the the back too didnt we?

If prefer a back 4 by the way, but I think getting a fully fit version of Delph will be quite important.

And Leeds before but I remember him playing full back for City, was injury cover to be fair can’t remember who, but their first choice got wiped out for a chunk of the season and he went back there.

Conversely I remember Gareth Barry playing full back for Villa.
I just worry that Zinchenko has no track record in midfield for about 5 years

We were bad with 5 at the back. But we were also bad with 4 at the back playing 433. Got torn to shreds at Palace and Tottenham. That often gets overlooked.

Maybe we are just not very good?
We played the 3-4-3/5-4-1 at Palace! Spurs we played a 4-3-3 but suicidal high press whilst the defensive line dropped deeper than the Mariana trench.....

We need to buy a real player for that role. Delph isn't good just not awful either.

If we have Zinchenko then Nkounkou is surely done now, I`ll only believe it when the club announce it. So much rubbish spouted during this time of the year...

I wouldn’t be signing him with central midfield in mind myself mate, but honestly I’ve never watched him play for Ukraine there, so I won’t offer a concrete opinion. I just see him as a full/wing back, I like him.

Funny though a few examples of the flip, Phil Neville is another.

Its ZinNo for me.

As ive pointed out, the Palace result was a freak, we overloaded the attack and got a result, its totally unfeasible the majority of the time.

People are just against 5 at the back, im not even a fan myself, to make it work we would need certainly a whole new midfield.

Personally I think people need to make their peace with it, our DoF favours it and our Manager has turned to it, accept it and hope we can make it work.
Agree with all of that. With the right personnel, 3 at the back doesn’t have to mean a flat, defensive 3; if we get someone who can competently kick a ball playing in the centre then it’s almost an extra midfielder in possession.

Our problem playing it so far is our general crapness. End the crapness, I say.
