The thing that kept cropping up time and time again, was something called " Post Exertional Malaise " ( PEM )

Feeling wiped out for days after long bouts of exercise, very similar symptoms to M.E.

It`s really baffling all the experts, as the conventional wisdom, is that exercise is beneficial and aides the return to health, after sickness.

You`ll find stuff online, from top end endurance runners, who are now struggling to complete easy 10k`s months and months after having had covid.

The hayfever tablets, came about by pure chance, as a couple of runners, who suffered from hayfever, found that once hay fever season had arrived and they started taking their tablets, their post covid symptoms lessened when running and then came back when they stopped taking the tablets.
I did some research on anti-histamines after your post , and I changed tack and went from looking at how runners are coping to looking at how people are addressing the fatigue/ achey bones and joints affects of Covid. I started the antihistamines the other day and also found some research saying Niacin , nicotinic acid version , and multi minerals like magnesium , zinc and selenium combinations were affective in some cases. There is nothing conclusive out there, otherwise it would be headline news but the science behind using Niacin looked good. Long story short , I started a low dose of Niacin today with a view of building up dosage and will add multimineral supplement in a few days. I‘m not as badly affected as yourself, just the muscle joint aches and fatigue, so I may come out of it naturally as I build up my mileage again but this can’t do any harm. I’ll let you know how I get on.

Hi mate,

FYI - I did a little experiment over the weekend and stopped taking the anti - histamines to see what would happen. ( had a couple of days off )

My chest has gone back to the way it was before, feels quite raw and the weird dry cough has come back too.

So, it would appear, on the face of this, that they do have an effect on damping down post virus symptoms.

Had this slight cough ever since covid that sorta comes and goes.

Same here mate, hard to describe it.

Kind if just comes out of nowhere, like there’s something tiny, annoying the back of the throat and can happen in mid sentence, so you almost stutter !
Some runs feels like my chest is burning and I’m full of phlegm when I start but kinda break through it.
The cough has been freaking me out a bit as guidance is you should get a check up if you have a persistent cough for a few weeks. Hope it fades away. Figured being an ex smoker hasn’t helped. Scary stuff

Interesting . That’s 9 days on Claritin , 7 days on Niacin , 5days on multi vitamins for me. I still have some aches and tiredness , and I wouldn’t expect a dramatic improvement yet . I’m persevering with long slow runs and managed a steady 14 miles 5 days ago , aches/ tiredness really kicked in at 10 . Theres an article in June‘s Runners World I was told about that looks at runners and recovering from Covid. Nothing new really, start back slowly , don’t overdo it,everybody’s different etc. It did say that Myocarditis hasn’t turned out to be an issue .
One guy in my running club has had things really bad for six months , all the symptoms you’ve mentioned. I’m hopeful that I can get on top of this though.

I’m still not good starting off - breathless and have to take it really slowly, especially on any early inclines, but once I’m warmed up, I feel much more comfortable than I did before
and my times have improved by 15-30 secs a mile over 6 - 10 miles.

I’ve also noticed, that a really mild burnt taste, which I think was coming from my manky lungs has gone too.

Sounds like you’re making some progress mate, albeit slowly, well done, hopefully you’ll continue in the same direction.
