ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

It’s the same problem for every account though. They’re financed by clicks and views of adverts. More interaction more money. If they run an Arsenal story, no one is bothered, they run a United story, maybe a bit more, City or Everton story? Outside of the localities of Liverpool and Manchester you won’t get much.

They run a Liverpool story and hordes of absolutely mindless fans across the world desperate to prove themselves as top reds will click every single bit of content they put up and probably click through on any adverts with lfc in them as well (hence brands like Erdinger Nivea etc. are willing to alienate the entirety of the football fanbase knowing that the fervour of the desperate kopite customer probably means more money for them)

Therefore there’s a repeating cycle of Uber positive news stories just keep getting published and clicked on, and because they’re always positive these same people want to click on more. Their second favourite topic after pro Liverpool rubbish? Articles trashing Everton City or United which is why there’s so many of these also.

Everton currently trending on Twitter.

Possibly on the back of the RS cryarsing for a 3rd day straight

I agree with this mostly.

I think United are the biggest news story in the UK. You saw that last week and the analysis of when they were beat 4-0 at Anfield. The focus was all on what was wrong at United rather than the team who won. It's because they are the team with the most fans in this country (and Worldwide) and the team that elicits most emotion from the wider footballing community. They were the big story and the one that would generate the most clicks.

After United, it's Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. Arsenal and Chelsea have a lot of fans across the South and East of England. Their successes over the last 20 odd years mean they have a really strong Worldwide following as well. They also have the London rivalry which means a fair amount of opposition fans are interested in them - even if that's driven by dislike.

All other teams in this country have a lot less widespread interest in them unless a) they are in with a shout of winning something or b) in crisis. In the intervening periods the interest is mainly locally driven - either through support or through dislike from local rivals.

I said it an another thread but the way the media has become spread and the way the media is now driven by click and advert revenues, has resulted in media going for the low hanging fruit stories. That generally means lot of stories in support or against the bigger 4 teams. It also means if you are outside those 4 teams you'll only get concentrated media attention form a national perspective when you are doing really well or really poorly. It causes a massive discrepancy in hw teams are viewed more widely and how the media treat different teams in this country.

To a point yes but the media has always been willing to write a negative story about United. Even in the Ferguson days there was often spats between Fergie and the media, he stopped talking to the BBC, journalists were banned, there were unsavoury stories on Beckham Giggs Rooney Keane etc. They whipped up the whole Ronaldo v Rooney debate.

This doesn’t happen to Liverpool though. When Mourinho comes second and gets two trophies with United he’s hounded by the press, same in his second stint at Chelsea. When Klopp takes 4 seasons to win anything at Liverpool it was nothing but glory glory Klopp from day one. Even last season, with a big dip in form in the middle, there was barely any negative stories.

The media know what sells and for a long time it’s just 24/7 LFC positive guff. Anything that isn’t that just doesn’t get the same clicks and it’s no surprise to me that there’s so many negative articles about United or Everton because these are attracting the exact same market.

Spoke to some Villarreal fans outside HMV before, nice people, wished them all the best for the match tonight.
Spoke to a few close to Lime Street on way home from work. Wished them the best of luck. Now at home watching Sky Sports News which is of course full of homage to the RS. They just had a couple people mutants on from the Anfield Wrap, or should that be warp, truly cringeworthy ?
