Diving

Do we do it too much?

If VAR is used correctly (which can't be guaranteed) then diving should never get anyone a penalty however there is a difference between diving and going down easy when you feel contact.

If a player is in the box and doesn't have an obvious opportunity to attempt a shot on goal but feels a possible foul then by all means go down easy and see what the ref says.

I'd never condone a player making a run in to the box with the intention of going down whether they get a touch or not.

That happens you know where and the ref points straight to the spot and SLY Sports say there was contact and imply Salah,Mane,Jota or whoever would be entitled to go down, no way was Gordons a pen but the double standards regarding Establishment FC(and others) drive me insane.

But if a striker is ahead of the defender and going to get the ball, in the box, if there is an accidental coming together, it is still a foul because it has potentially prevented them scoring. Every foul should be accidental technically anyway, because if you are intending to foul, it goes against the sportsmanship of the game and they call it a professional foul.
I get that but if the referee is in a position where he can't for sure call it either way then benefit of the doubt maybe comes into it. The ref shouldn't be giving something they don't clearly see.

No that's a very dangerous road to go down and one that definitely shouldn't be the case. The idea that any sort of contact is an automatic penalty would make the situation even worse than it is now. A foul should only be given if a player has been clearly impeded and a dive should only be given if the referee is 100% convinced that a player tried to con him.

I do think Gordon goes down to much and too easily personally. It's not that he dives as such, but sometimes he would be better staying on his feet, something he'll probably learn with experience.

Gordon is a diver. No question. That's not the problem in itself but he is so bad
at it. The other night at Burnley he got away with it but Saturday's effort was poor.

I think he should watch more LFC tape and watch masters like Sterling, Suarez, Gerrard,
and now salah.

Is one of the main reasons I watch less and less football on the box these days. Witnessing some of the sh*thousery is embarrassing at times, fully grown men in front of fans and the cameras tripping over their imaginary blouses. Would be a better use of VAR to check if someone guilty of simulation and their to be an automatic yellow/red for it. Is essentially cheating.

We all love Anthony Gordon, but does anybody else get frustrated by his diving? He can shoot, cross and dribble past anyone, but instead of doing any of that he constantly tries sticking a leg out.

It's not only him of course, but the amount of times our players choose to go down in and around the box rather than keep the ball alive is so annoying to watch. We rarely get a touch in the opposition's area, so why not just keep playing and make a chance instead of, you know, cheating?

I hate this, and i think it's not us, or our fault.
i think the playacting and overdramatic falls, dives and rolling around has just become so endemic that we have to do it too, but we're not as good at it. As well as that, because it's such a farce, the refs basically make decisions based on nothing, or everday corruption which is prevalent in the PL.

Would be nice if we took a stand to NOT fall over for every push or nudge looking for a foul, and also then did a PR campaign to say that, so that refs know too. It's 100% fact that refs are influenced by managers, players and media coverage/

There are two sources of the rules of the game: one set out by the authorities in the rule book and one cultivated through the enforcement and interpretation of those rules.

The latter has allowed a culture of deception to become a huge part of the modern game and it's about time we woke up to that so it is a level playing field. And that's why if Anthony Gordon is clever enough to understand this, get himself in front of the defender, and give the referee a decision to make, then I'm all for it.

It's not the responsibility of any of our players to try and change the modern football culture of cheating and simulation and we'd only be punished for trying to do so.

Agree, once the first half a dozen sent off it will make future ones sit up and think.

It makes me so annoyed that every pundit is such a coward when it comes to calling it out. So many excuses made for cheating. I actually find it hard to celebrate when we've scored from a bad VAR call or a dive for a penalty. Just doesn't feel the same.

We’ve been too nice for ages. When all the other teams stop doing it then maybe we can talk about the morality of Gordon doing it but all we’re doing is levelling the field
