He needs to play as well as he can play. He can dress how he likes. But if dresses to draw attention to himself - which he incontrovertibly does - his admirers can't make the argument that "he didn't ask for any of that", i.e., hype, when he demonstrably did. You don't do photoshoots for privacy or to keep a low profile. I want his profile to be sky high - in the box. Recently, he's been a better model than striker.

Nobody is demanding "more" of him. Some of us are demanding he plays to his full ability. He needs to get the head down, concentrate on getting fit, focus on his football career, and start banging in the goals. Right now, he has a higher profile because of how he dresses than for his finishing. That's on him, not "old men".

I said nothing of the sort. I said I couldn't care what he wears once he does the job on the pitch. And if he doesn't do the job on the pitch, he'll be criticised - especially if he's got a needy "look at me" off-field profile that overshadows his main career. That's the way of the world. And there's no point saying he didn't ask for the spotlight when he is appearing in magazines looking like Britney Spears in Baby One More Time. As a striker, he most certainly needs to score. He'll be given plenty of time by fans if they think he is fully focused on being the player we hope he can be. However, he's in danger of going the Marcus Rashford route: a fine player better known as a humanitarian.

It’s not the time for a megaparagraph rant about dress sense.

I wear what I want, you wear what you want, he wears what he wants.
